There’s plenty of people here who pretend that he has actually been a good player though, when he has been genuinely horrible for all 3 seasons
Definitely hasn’t been horrible, he’s been inconsistent like a lot of young players. I just want that same energy for Sengun, please. He’s gonna be good some games and some games he’s gonna look bad. I don’t wanna hear that it’s his first year starting crap, bc KPJ was in his first year as a starting PG.
That's cap. And it is just straight up hate. Because these last 3 seasons pretty much everyone has sucked. Yet, I don't see the KPJ haters in all the other threads throwing up meaningless win/shares or other stats saying Green sucked, or Alp sucked or yadda yadda yadda....when the truth is they are all young and learning. DD
I mean you can pretend that it makes no difference how many years a player has been in the nba, but if green is putting up numbers like 3rd year kpj was last season, i’ll be saying the exact same things about him. Green sucked last season, but he was a rookie. If he sucks again this season AND next season, that’s a problem
Ok. Although no one here has a clue as to the context of each episode and like Horry, whether or not someone deserved it, it's a solid argument. I think the majority would do the opposite. I get and respect your point of view. Point taken.
There aren’t people in the other rookies threads claiming we should find a way to void their rookie contracts and start paying them 20-30 million right now. No one claiming they are already above average starters for their position. No one claiming they are already really good shooters when they aren’t.
It's just easier to hate on KPJ cuz he quits on the team. Throws temper tantrums and I'm not sure his talent justifies us keeping him around for the head ache. No one is saying he sucks, but his attitude definitely sucks
There was a graphic that has been posted that claimed 7.6% of KPJs 3s were considered “open” and since it was posted has been repeated a bunch of times by the pro KPJ group.
Take a look at the original tweet .... It states "per 75 possessions" meaning he had to shrink the sample size to less than a games worth of possessions over the course of the season to get the desired result. Talk about small sample size? 0.91 possessions per game over the course of an 82 game season. That's just manipulating stats to dictate a narrative ....
I actually think this is one of the few stats that’s been posted from a Twitter source that isn’t misleading. And is actually a good sign for KPJ. Per 75 is just a way to normalize the numbers and compare players over the same number of possessions. If he just listed high value assists per game then players who play on teams with a higher pace or have the ball more often would have an inherent advantage to having more high value assists than others.
I wonder why it's per 75 possessions. Most standard stats use per 100 possessions, or per 36 minutes. Per 75 sounds like it's something he cooked up himself.
I believe it’s because while teams generally are close to having around 100 possessions per game, when looking at individual players their number of possessions are lower. It’s just a number that is going to more closely resemble a per game stat than per 100. It’s really not all that uncommon. The Thinking Basketball Podcast that did the whole GOAT top 40 careers almost exclusively cites per 75 numbers rather than per 100 when discussing and comparing individual players.
ya, if a team has 100 possessions in a game, the player would need to play 48 minutes to have 100 possessions. Nobody plays that, so the standard for players is 75 possessions, which would be around 36 minutes per game, a more reasonable number then 48 minutes.
yeah per 75 or per 100 is okay. I think the trick is that there are not many qualifying players and some others are probably not direct comparison as they do are not the main play maker or they are new to the league. He posted a similar stat for Sengun where the comparison goes back 2014. Again 2014 is random and probably there is something there that makes the result not very appealing. In kpj’s case he only used the last year. but overall it is not a bad stat. He is comparable to garland and this is much better than most of the junk arguments here. I’ll take it.
