Ok, progress, so what do you consider as a 2nd year PG would be acceptable progress in your eyes?

Would you prefer 22ppg and 7assist improvement enough...say with a 2-1 Ato turnover?

Or are you more looking for 18ppg and 9assists?

i don't care about ppg or apg, it's not 1980, we know enough about basketball now that those numbers are meaningless without context. I know you say "2nd year pg" but it will be his forth season in the league, not his 2nd. The 1st 2 years count, even if his role wasn't identical, it's not like he went from post up center to point guard. He would need to improve his efficiency considerably and lower his TO%. A guard who turns it over constantly AND is inefficient is a completely worthless player.

There is so much misinformation everytime you post but just going to point out one thing - TyTy (picked 29th) was drafted one spot ahead of KPJ (30th).

Are you now saying KPJ will also be out of the league because he was "drafted that low" and we should all believe that just because you, Craig Ackerman, Lebron, and Dame said so?

Right that is what I thought, a guy who looks at the game through thick stats glasses.

All that matters at this point is improvement - and some of that can be measured and some of it can't.....for instance, the defensive stat tracking sucks - there is very little to measure that side of the court.

Watch the game gather your stats.....and report back.....I will enjoy watching his progress......with seasoned eyes.

The odds were against KPJ too - at 30th.....no misinformation just facts....guys drafted that low don't usually stick around longer. There is a difference though, KPJ slid for attitude, TyTy slid for size and talent.

And no, you don't have to believe me - I am just pointing out those that do, who know a lot more basketball than ANYONE ELSE posting in this thread, including me.

lol.. more misinformation. just stop already.

tyty slid because he was nursing an injury the whole second half of the ncaa season and didn't participate in any workouts leading up to the draft.

you made up the whole part of tyty sliding in the draft bc of lack of size and talent - he's 6'3" with a 6'8" wingspan as a pg. he's a plus sized pg who was ranked as one of the top pgs in the country coming out of high school and broke john wall's single game assist record at kentucky. anyone lacking in talent wouldn't be able to do that.

Wait, what? That's news to me. I've always thought--since last year--that people who were born in 2000 are 21 years old.

Among all players born in 2000, KPJ is in the only player to turn 22.

Actually math was my jam......but I don't use Math to describe human interactions on the field, as all of these stats are predicated on human input and development, and are inherently flawed.

For instance, what constitutes a contested shot? Is it just someone standing there, is it someone with a hand up ON the shot, or if a hand arrives late does that count as a contested shot?

You can break things down but in the end, all of the algorithms do is guarantee confirmation bias, you see what you want to see in them, lies....damned lies and statistics.

There are no perfect stats - to describe any sport. You can glean information out of them, but using them to determine a players worth, when it doesn't rate leadership, or defense is poorly ranked, or hustle.......

Stats are nice - but it is like communism - it can never work, or give you the full picture because all people are not equal in communism and all stats are not equal in analysis.

This take will probably be difficult for many to understand - but that's ok.....some folks just think more deeply than most.

    ;)

Yep, DD is just like Kyrie and is able to understand certain things better and think more deeply than everyone else.

So, since stats are meaningless to you and it's better that we determine a player's worth via rating their leadership, hustle, intangibles, etc... are you now saying that KPJ is exemplary in showing leadership and providing intangibles? Someone who will drive out of the arena mid-game because he couldn't accept getting coached up? Someone who will quit mid-play because he didn't get a call his way from the ref? Someone who threw tantrums every place he went because things weren't going his way? That sure is great leadership and a great way to set an example for winning basketball.

See, nowhere did I say meaningless - not did I mention Kyrie - nice deflection attempt though - just doesn't really work.

And now we see your real bias - you developed your viewpoint because of some of his immature plays. And that is why you slam him, or look for reasons to denigrate him or his game.

While I look at those as growing pains of a 21 year old kid - who is learning how to deal with his emotions, but I love that he cares, many players just don't give a ****....KPJ clearly does.

Will he ever get it all together? I honestly don't know....but with his skillset and size, and speed, I certainly hope so - because he has all star potential - just needs to grow up.

As for your boy TyTy - I am rooting for him too, he slid because he was injured...his 2nd half of college was way way worse than his first......due to that ankle injury.

Last thing on stats - when it is flawed data at the start, it only magnifies at the end....garbage in, garbage out....

The only reason I don't have you on ignore even with all your nonsense is because you really are a good predictor of things to come. Almost every single thing you say or predict, the exact opposite happens in reality. So I thank you for that, I guess.

This is going to be a rant because its the last post I'll make here until the games start getting played and isn't entirely directed at you personally.

What difference does it make how relevant this stat is if its factual? 70+ attempts from that range seem like enough to be worthy of discussion since its roughly about 17% of his 3 point output, but the burden of proof ultimately lies on you. Disprove it if you can instead of just thumbing your nose because of who delivers the information. Even the most relevant stats have been dismissed for the advanced metrics that paint the picture you want to see. Too many jealous ass gatekeepers clutching pearls because a younger generation shows more passion and zeal for their own players and offers benefit of the doubt and positivity. They are an inspiration and I applaud that way to fan I wish they would directly contribute here. Im going to love posting as many of these new voices as I can to drown out the melancholia from those who would rather fill their voids with negativity or insulate with only one sided opinions and consistently needing the ego boost of being "right" on Clutch Fans. Jump on Twitter and dismiss these posts to "educate" the fanbase since its the most "relevant" sports talk platform out there. You could even monetize your awesome reasoning ability and inspire the HUGE Rocket community there. Too much work right? LOL I know thats why I just hang out here and have pissing contests with other boomers for the nostalgia!

The irony is super funny to me too because these obscure accounts and stats are sooo offensive and create the loudest responses, yet the doubt goes silent when you do post name brands in the analysis game who have positive comments about KPJ or more "relevant" data. Coincidence?

Post historic type stuff the kid has done what happens? "nahh that dont count Corey Brewer did it". Post other "relevant" statistical tidbits and then it turns into a volume argument. Post his good 3 point shooting and its "nahh he's too inefficient". Show his growth from one year to the next? "nah he's done he is who he is after 3 years" Assist percentage? "you are reaching that stat dont even count" LOL Why? Because at no point in time will you and the other more decided guys support this kid. You have made up your mind.

For the record I agree KPJ WAS bad in isolation PPP, and the PNR numbers you cite no argument here. His drive/finish ability also regressed from the previous season . He still offers a unique skill package at great size for the initiating guard and scalable to the the wing slots and has some dog in him on defense. Kid improved his outside shot almost 7% points in one year - and still some guys found a way to diminish it as if it didnt happen or had some extra qualifier to excuse it away! There ARE positive things to discuss, but the good faith arguments only materialized for a few. 37.5% 3 point shooting on 7 attempts per game isnt that big of a deal for a modern guard after being "bad" the previous year? Its almost as if Kevin Porter Jr is learning how to be an effective lead guard and playmaker in the NBA!

Some have pigeonholed KPJ into a finished product and if this kid turns the corner its going to be hard to live down. I'll be here front and center to account for my positivity and irrational hopefulness if KPJ burns up so we'll see who's who if the opposite occurs. We are only a few short weeks away from finding out who was "right" so that is exciting!

I remember riding with Jalen last year when most everyone was having fun cracking their jokes while holding stat cards and feeling vindicated about their Evan Mobley preference. It felt great at the end of the year even though Jalens advanced stats still said he was the "worst player in the league". I offer both of these young players the same flexibility to grow and develop. I dont view KPJ as some sort of lost cause or irreparable because he's spent 3 years between 2 different rebuilds and the GLeague while at the same time acknowledging the self inflicted outbursts that have been an obstacle and his need to mature and become consistent. I also think Alperen Sengun specifically will unlock the best of this back court and will alleviate a good portion of the PNR concerns for both KPJ and Jalen. Im not ready to close the coffin on these kids as being "bad" pick and roll players the process is not finished.

Somehow, driving out of the arena at halftime now means that the player actually gives a **** and cares, unlike the players that are busting their ass out on the court. Rather than sticking with the team and supporting your teammates and giving max effort, we should all abandon what we do halfway just to show that we care. I'm going to try that in the office next time to really show everyone that I give a **** and that I care more than they do.

What a time to be alive.

"Most everyone was having fun" is a gross exaggeration, no? Dude, I admire your enthusiasm about Rockets players. But you got to pump the brake on seeing things more than they actually are. There were some Mobley fans who enjoyed the demise of Green. But I'd say most every Rockets fan was disappointed and definitely NOT having fun seeing Green struggle.

Maybe in your mind "most everyone is having fun" talking down about KPJ now. That's not true at all. Few Rockets fans want to see KPJ struggle. We hope he will have a turn around like Green did last season. But when that hasn't happen yet, we don't call it reality like you and a few others do.

Yeah, let the game start and we'll see.

id give KPJ the exact same deal Keldon Johnson got, 4 years, $80 million, but declining every year and i think there are some stats he has to hit to get the full $80.

The worst case scenario is KPJ plays like last year but maybe slightly better then some team gives him and RJ Barrett deal.

If you think JG, Bari and Alpi will be better - and that's the hope - then all 3 guys will require bigger contracts. You can't afford to have KPJ on a "huge" contract, too.

If you give him the 4, $80 and he doesnt get better and/or is slightly worse, its not the end of the world.

    Also 100% cap.

I post a lot, but you just confirmed confirmation bias - it is a narrative among some folks that don't like my posts that I am wrong all the time - it just isn't true....I am just unafraid of putting my opinion out there, and will be wrong or right about the same as everyone else.

What you really mean to say, is I post too much - now that, is no cap.

We've seen him play.... he looked like trash even against summer league competition. He was a late first round pick based on his low ceiling, if he ends up a backup quality guard, we should be thrilled about it.
