Just depends on the pizza. Pro Tip to keep things from getting soggy for the home pizza cook: pre-cook your veggies to get the moisture out. Roasted garlic/peppers/tomato is a different flavor bomb than raw ones. Not a huge pepperoni fan because most of it is waaaay too greasy, I love good Italian sausage though. Sausage, onion, peppers is choice. The Barbara Bush special at Fuzzy's is a great pizza with a bunch of toppings. So is the Wrigley at Candelari's. I used to go nuts on a deep dish from Star back in the Houston days There was a diner on West Gray way back when that did a Greek pizza: gyro meat, feta, spinach, red onion, roasted red pepper, red sauce, cheese. It was glorious.
I'm surprised how many people here are rocking the pineapple I love grilled pineapple (grilled pineapple, chopped into cubes, + mint, pinch of salt, plus a bit of rum and/or sugar for flavor is a great simple dish), I love pineapple on al pastor tacos. I just cannot do pineapple on pizza, I guess it's the tomato/pineapple combo that doesn't work for me.
My list of toppings: pepperoni onions green peppers pineapple garlic I'll do all those at the create-your-own, with extra pepperoni. For other places, it's usually the top 3. When family style, I'm fine with supreme. But no olives. Olives are disgusting.
I see what you're trying to do here, but it will not stand. Good marinated olives are amazingly good Dill should be fed to livestock so their farts smell even worse
IMO if you're having to pre-cook your vegetables you've probably got too much going on with the pizza to begin with (be that cheese, veggies, or whatever). The only vegetables that really benefit from the pre-cook are onions, tomatoes, and peppers, which are all pretty polarizing ingredients that need to be used sparingly anyway unless you're going for a specific pizza that highlights that particular ingredient. I suppose you could add pineapple to that list but it's not a veggie at least. As for pepperoni, you can get versions that aren't quite so greasy. My favorite is actually a fairly dry one and I like it cubed, not sliced. The BBush at Fuzzy's is a great callout. Man I miss that one badly.
Onion, tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms should be pre-cooked I've done a lot of Spanish-style chorizo, or pancetta, or cured Italian deli cuts instead of pepperoni, but you're quite right that you can find good stuff.
As far as toppings- pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, mushrooms and red onions. Throw some sun dried tomatoes on there, if available. I think good pizza starts with the dough and sauce tho. It has to handle the amount of toppings you want.
There's no one be-all, end-all pizza configuration. Just like there's no one perfect burger topping configuration. Sometimes I want a really well executed pepperoni/mushroom. Sometimes it's a supreme. As people have said, pizza style makes a big difference.
Not yet, but I did try Vino`s just up the street, great cheesesteaks and pizza!! The Vino`s original is my go to on game day
