interesting approach. Not that I expect you to know, but I’ve posted previously that I am come from an immigrant family, we came here with nothing, I worked and paid my own way through college and law school, ive worked for the top texas firms and companies, I get the ever living hell taxed out of me because I have the good fortune of earning a good living. So it should come as no surprise that I am fiscally conservative, believe in family values, education, and out working your circumstances and peers.

Not that it is probative of anyth8ng, but yeah, I am a right-leaning centrist.

I have no party because dumbassery has possessed the republicans since trump showed up. You have idiots who don’t believe in education, facts are optional, values don’t matter, and ignorance reigns. Including idiotic posts like you making ignorant generalizations about your political opponents because it makes you feel good.

Take your ignorant self and go to the kids table. The adults are talking here.

Let's say Trump is out of the picture and DeSantis were to become the presidential candidate. Could you see yourself coming back to support the Republicans? Just curious.

You want a cookie? I did the same but you won't see me writing a novel on the internet about it. You know why? Because I don't need the validation you do.

I don't really want to waste time anymore. Pat yourself on the back. Tons of people have had it worse but your story is special lol

Good question. It is highly unlikely because Desantis is too politic to do what I would require. Just as a starting point, he would have to say unequivocally that:

    - Trump lied about the 2020 election being stolen and people need to stop lying about it.

    - J6 was an insurrection and participants should be punished to the full extent of the law

    - denounce white nationalism and Christian nationalism.

That’s just to get me to think about it. From there, he would need to do an about face on his rhetoric regarding social issues, whether it’s about education, LGBTQ+, etc. In short, he would need to swing hard to center and ideally tell the far right to f-ck off.

Not at all, I can bake or buy all the cookies I want. And I don’t even like sweets.

if you worked your way through college and law school, I would expect more intelligent thoughts than liberals don’t own property and rent because because because. Go back to the kids table and work on your GED.

From a pragmatic standpoint, even if he thinks that (which I think he does), it would be tactically unwise to lose all the people who still support Trump. Being a politician, why would he diminish his own base from the start? Doesn't seem to make sense to demand that, purely from a "winning a nomination/an election" perspective.

Why would he have to denounce that any more than anyone else? He made a black guy Surgeon General (who I think has been very good). Why would a white nationalist do that?

To be honest, it sounds like you are a Democrat at this point, no? Nothing wrong with that, but the current "Republican mainstream" seems much farther away from your positions than the "moderate democrats".

well, if you have really obtained such an advanced degree, I hope you are making a good living and can one day afford to go see the majesty of the Muir Woods where a UN conference honored FDR, collect moonstones at Cambria beach, see the otters crack shellfish on their chests in Monterrey, maybe catch a meal of a lifetime at French Laundry. There is a lot out there to see and do. I hope you make it there.

I totally agree that it would make no sense for Desantis to do what I would require to support him. No disagreement from me at all. it just happens to be the leadership I want to see from my president. Which is why I want him to denounce white and Christian nationalism (not that I think he is those things, but I want that leadership) and Q anon as well. Understand, I would likewise want him to denounce whatever the far left equivalent of those things …. I struggle to identify what they are, but I don’t have any patience for ignorance and stupidity. Like defunding the police is idiotic. Likewise I don’t support cashless bail for violent offenders.

I don’t know if I’m more of a democrat. I suppose perhaps I am, relative to the current Republican Party. This isn’t because I’ve changed, but rather because the Republican Party has gone to hell since Trump took over.

The country needs leadership to purge the nonsense, ignorance and poison that Trump ushered in. I don’t think Desantis will do that. Rather, I think he will at least snuggle up to it, if not flat out promote it.

I respect your viewpoint, @Rileydog. I think DeSantis is the only guy who can pull the Republican party back to just being traditional conservative. Will he have to cater to some of the folks who were supporting Trump? I think so. Does that mean he is a lunatic or nationalist or racist? I don't think so. He seems super smart and he will have to play it in a really clever way, but I think he needs to be confrontational to win it and then he can actually unite the country again.

french laundry was good but less inspirational or important than the Muir Woods, the otters or even the moonstones. Hell, one could make the argument that Bouchon Bakery on a perfect day is just as good. I’m just saying, I hope you make it out there.
