We can talk about how Walker and his lack of grace as a speaker and his lack of knowledge on the issues. However I think that there isn't enough discussion about the domestic violence problems he has had. His ex-wife has talked about how he was going to blow her head off has the police not arrived as soon as they did. He has been diagnosed with a serious mental illness, he openly states he has multiple personalities and that some of them are "bad". Someone with these issues should never even get out of the primary. It is shameful.
His election is more likely to yield policy outcomes I prefer than the alternative. What other criteria is relevant?

I appreciate your honesty and this is the reality a lot of times. I do believe the quality and intelligence of the candidate does matter for the long and short term good of the country.

I understand that thought process completely, but shouldn't a better candidate have been chosen that doesn't have Walker's deficiencies? With a "real" candidate, there would be a better chance of a Republican winning.
I think if the Republicans want to take control, they can't just have candidates with the baggage of Walker and Dr. Oz and expect to ride Trump's coattails to victory. It's a sad state of affairs that those are the types of candidates that are being trotted out there. Policy wise, Liz Cheney voted the vast majority of the time with Trump supported issues. But since she voted to impeach and heads the J6 committee she is a pariah. She would have been a valuable ally to a newly elected Republic President.
And just to make matters worse for Republicans Cheney voted against impeachment of Trump the first time.
