I can't speak for you, but the poorer people I know generally don't hate me for making more money than they do. Probably because I don't look down on them, as you seem to do. Uhh, why? State and local taxes are the most regressive. Income taxes are progressive. Property and sales taxes are regressive. Why would you think not including the primary sources of regressive taxes would change your analysis? Pretty sure poor people would love for there to be lower property taxes (in the forms of lower rents) and lower sales taxes. If the richest were being soaked so much, you'd think they'd be clamoring for a shift in the taxation system - but the current tax system is literally created entirely by the wealthy classes. Do you think they worked against their own interests? Maybe the obvious answer is the system works for them really well - which is how they make so much money in the first place.
Beyond traditional taxes, I dont know why we don't consider health care spending when calculating taxation costs. We already pay taxes tied to healthcare (FICA) but beyond that we should really consider employee health care spending in any tax calculation as it functions as a near mandatory levy that simply goes to private companies instead of directly to the government. And once you start thinking about health care spending as a tax, it looks really flipping regressive. 1. Health care premiums aren't means tested and are simply employer negotiated. The employee making $40000 and the employee making $400000 are likely paying into the same plan at the same premium. But as a percentage of income, the lower income employee is paying a much larger share of his or her income towards their premium. 2. People who work in industries with higher average education also tend to have better health plans. Effectively, they get more for every dollar spent on their premium. 3. Out of pocket costs behave similarly. None of those costs are means tested and end up screwing lower income earners who simply have to pay much larger percentages of income on an essential service like health care. If you're wealthy, the US is a damn good country for health care but man if you're middle income its awful. This is the inverse of most countries that fund health care with employer and income taxes so health care spending becomes a progressive tax. Once you factor in health care spending, the US's vaunted advantage of lower taxes actually disappears and instead you discover how inefficient American taxation is.

They want to take more money from you, regardless of their feelings. If they really love you but want to take more from you anyway, that doesn't really speak well of them. Because in many cases state and local benefits will match or exceed the increase in taxation. Why would you assume lower property taxes would be passed down to renters? Landlords may just pocket the increased revenue. Property owners, who tend to have higher incomes, tend to pay the vast majority of property taxes. Why would the same not apply to corporate taxes? Aren't those passed down to consumers? Seems like you are being very selective in how you view which taxes are passed along and which are not. The system was implemented by the government who are elected by the people, the majority of whom end up with negative tax rates. I think the obvious answer is the masses have voted for a system that has the majority of the revenue coming from the more productive and the majority of the benefits going to the mass number of people. The "tax loopholes" are already included. They reduce the taxes paid. You can't double count them as a payment received by the person not making the payment. If you have 100 dollars and I reduce your taxes from 50 dollars to 25 dollars, then your net payment is 25 dollars, not 0 dollars because your taxes were lowered by 25 dollars. On the other hand, if you were paying 10 dollars and I give you back 20 dollars, your have paid -10 dollars.

In fact, this is where they included the EITC, as a reduction in the amount of tax paid, not as a transfer income. They listed the federal transfer incomes in a footnote (which references the CBO report, which also categorizes transfer payments in the before tax income, and the EITC in the amount of tax paid. So they are in fact treating the EITC and "tax loopholes" (which you for some reason differentiate from the EITC), as elements of the amount of tax paid, not as part of transfer income.
