Rules have exceptions, but what were his options? Oh! McCormick and Meyers until Siri DEBUTED Sept. 3 and proceeded to play in 21 games that September. Any rookie September call ups on that pace this year?
From opening day through July 15 ( his last game with Houston), Siri had 147 plate appearances. Chas had 212. Meyers first game was 06/24. Meyers stared every game through the rest of June. He also started 12 of the 14 games in July prior to Siri being sent down. Not sure where Siri was seeing more starts than those 2.
McCormick would get starts at the corners WHILE Siri played CF when they needed a 4th OF. If you aren't seeing it, you aren't looking because you don't like what you'll find.
Yes. At least he received a shot at earning that .956 OPS while others are relegated to the BENCH. He didn't START with those numbers, at least not without enough PA to make them meaningful. He received them from the same guy who has Gurriel GLUED at 1B with a .647 OPS in 500 PA with a bench FULL of players who are better and with 1B experience.
That's happened only 9 times and in his limited batting 2nd appearances (22) he has an OPS over .980.
Actually, he DID start out with those numbers. After his 2nd start, his OPS was 1.778. After a week of starts, his OPS was 1.400.
The fact remains that Siri did not play at the expense of Meyers and Chas. ETA And what does it say about you where you want the white guys starting over the Latin or black players?
Chas was irritated that he wasn’t traded, I think. He was already pissed about getting sent down this year and he kinda popped off about it in an interview a few days later. He even said “ oh well thats what the trade deadline is for”. Dusty might be dealing with a sour apple? I dunno. Just a thought.
For the record, I am on team Jake 2.0, but don't think he is healthy. Dusty displeasured at Chas in Spring Training https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...-isn-t-a-lock-to-start-in-center-17036333.php Manager Dusty Baker’s displeasure with him is becoming more apparent as the season draws closer. Twice this week, Baker bristled at outside presumptions that McCormick will replace Meyers in April. Both of Baker’s remarks came in response to a question about something other than Houston’s center-field job. “He hasn’t had a good spring so far,” Baker said of McCormick before Tuesday’s Grapefruit League game against the Nationals. “Give him the opportunity, giving guys a chance to earn a job. You consider what a guy has done in the past and you also consider what a guy is doing in the present and you sort of combine the two. It depends on what you need today, too.” Dusty Unhappy About Straw Trade https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...quire-Phil-Maton-for-Myles-Straw-16352987.php Baker regularly defended Straw during his awful start to the season. After April, Straw settled into a consistent rhythm during his first attempt at everyday playing time. In 73 games since May 1, Straw had a .357 on-base percentage. He had a preseason goal of a .350 clip. Asked if he was upset at the organization’s decision, Baker said “I can’t answer that.” “I don’t think that’s anybody’s business,” the manager said. “I’m not the decision maker. Sometimes you have to do what the organization asks. Sometimes you don’t have a choice.” Dusty defending benching Chas against Lefties https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...Dusty-Baker-s-response-to-lineup-17368324.php “I mean, Díaz was hot as hell. There’s only one other place for (McCormick) to play, and he wasn’t going to play in front of (Kyle) Tucker. It depends on which lefty I match him up against. He doesn’t play against every lefty. He faced a couple lefties yesterday and struck out a couple times, too. Dusty favoring Dubon over Chas https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/giants/why-mauricio-dubon-wasnt-surprised-trade-giants-astros Dubón also will now play for Dusty Baker, whose son, Darren, was one of Dubón's workout partners in high school. Dubón grew up a Giants fan and said he was excited to play for Baker, who gave him a simple message on his first day with the Astros. "It was just be ready to win, be ready to play," Dubon said. "We don't want you to change anything, just be yourself and be ready to play."
