Yes, he isn't Paolo. Jabari actually LIKES playing defense and he is a dog on that side of the ball. There are enough ball needy players on Rockets that Jabari can take his time developing this aspect of his game WITHOUT HURTING THE TEAM.
Sports Writers, Ex Players, Coaches and YES Internet "Posers". Was not the consensus #1, but many thought he was. Will he end up the best of the bunch? Who knows, but he's the one that dropped to us and I can't wait til he proves the doubters wrong. My 2.
What do you mean by internet posers? Vast majority of people including Orlando FO themselves expected him to be the #1 pick until draft day. Not everybody agreed that he should. But Jabari was the first pick in most of mock drafts. Are they all internet posers?
Just what I said. You have no idea what the Orlando FO expected and why would they expect anything when they had the 1st pick? Yes most mock drafts are internet posers and they all got sucked into the Smith hype. I had been saying for 3 months there is no way Smith goes 1st with his deficiencies. I have no idea why people need to cling to fantasy that Smith was a going to be 1st over Pablo and Chet, and we somehow got a steal. Whatever helps you sleep at night, I guess.
You can double down on whatever revisionist history you make up. The fact is, all the top picking teams had expected what the 1,2,3, picks would be until the day before draft day. Orlando taking Banchero surprised everybody, not just "internet posers." In fact, when the Rockets FO got words that Orlando MIGHT take Paolo, they scrambled to get medical info of Chet because they thought that OKC might take Smith if Orlando didn't, leave Chet to them. Both Paolo and Jabari were surprised by the outcome. I guess all those people were internet posers too, according to your definition. LOL.
But you do right? Just like you know that no NBA writers, scouts, coaches, organizations or ex players had Jabari #1. Alrighty then.
I mean, we are all only stupid fans on the internet giving out our opinions… basically none of us have any insider information or are smarter than any other random internet dude. That being said, predraft Smith was the favorite for the Vegas odds until the day before the draft. That‘s not saying that all teams believed he was the best, just that some well informed people took huge bets on Smith - and then changed their bets the day of the draft. And that doesn‘t mean, that teams were thinking Smith was the best player. But it sure seemed like a lot of people were thinking, that the Magic were gonna take him. And its not like many people were calling them crazy for that. Sure, several people were out there saying, they would go another way (including me - I always believed they needed a playmaker and number 1 option, and that‘s Banchero) - but overall people were calling this a 3 player draft. With some going for the potential of the unicorn Chet, others with the player with the clearest path of being a star in Banchero and others with the player, that already seems to be elite in two of the most important aspects of the game (defense and shooting) and that can fit any team. There is a good chance that Smith will never be a number 1 option. There is a good chance, that he will always be more of a super role player, than a superstar. But there is also very little chance, that he won‘t always be a valuable starter no matter for which team he is playing - the kind of player that every team would kill to have to compliment it‘s superstar(s). If that is worth a #3 pick will depend, on how the players taken after him will perform. And let‘s not pretend there is no chance, that Smith developes into a number 1 option and a superstar…
Very well put, I can't refute any of that. I will say that I have never seen what happened to Smith in any other draft, A player thought to be consensus #1 by the 'experts" dropping to 3 without any injury or legal troubles. I am no expert, but I never thought he was a better prospect than Banchero or Chet, he just had a huge flaw in his game, for it to flip so suddenly IMO means teams never really thought he was the #1 prospect. With that said I probably still would have picked him, but I think he easily could have several other players pass him from this draft and he could be considered a disappointment. I think the chance he develops into a #1 option and superstar are less than 30%, but that's ok as long as his perceived strengths actually will be strengths at this level. Going to interesting to see what the 2nd contract will be like, don't know if will deserve max type money.
I mean you could also argue Chet‘s frame is a major flaw and Paolos lack of effort (especially on the defensive end) was a major red flag (and his 3pt percentage doesn‘t help either) - and I believe Jabari was the only number 1 option of any of the three players that were in discussion for the #1 spot. None of these players are a sure thing, that‘s why this year was a three player race instead of a clear cut #1. Each of the players could have gone first without people being shocked - and each could fall to number 3 without it being a shock. The only shocking thing was, how the Magic played it.
Banchero never had a lack of effort, and he never had a major red flag, nobody ever said this scouting wise. His 3pt percentage is just fine since when is shooting 35% from 3 a problem at 6'10? Was not really much of a race the week before the draft and nobody actually knows how the Magic played it and there were a lot of reports that said Banchero was who the Magic wanted all along but for some reason those were ignored.
You accuse others of narratives while spitting ish left and right. No one ever questioned Banchero's effort on D? Comical.
Lol come on man. It has not been that long ago to where you are forgetting what was said about these players. Many people most certainly questioned Paolo his defense and lack of effort.
League pass question here for a new Dallas local.. does anyone know if rockets games are blacked out on league pass in the Dallas area? Unsure if that’s considered local. Is there an alternative to watching Rockets games in Texas? Do people typically stream or maybe watch on altitude website?
Many people? Many people question that Biden is the legitimate president, so does that make it a legit question. Most of the people questioning Bancheros lack of Effort where the people trying to pump up there favorite guy in Chet or Smith. I don't pat attention to these twitter experts, and they were the many people questioning the lack of effort.; Hell, you had many people continually talking about his lack of length as if he should be judged as a 5. Just as many people were saying the questions about his defense and lack of effort were overblown, so do we ignore them. Anybody that watched all he did for that team can't possibly question his effort level. Just because some rando with a twitter is questioning things does not make it a legit question, IMO. And we got a lot of so-called draft experts on Twitter these days.
