Its not that shocking. Palin is a truly awful candidate that is not liked in Alaska. I think this result is simply because she's just too unpopular and lost in spite of her party affiliation.

I guess the better numbers for Democrats likely helped but any other Republican wins this election.

Lol this is not how our failing system works, to the extent it "works" at all.

We have literally not had "radical left" change for many years, either 50 or actually even almost 100 years going back the new deal, i mean i don't think the civil rights era was radical so much as finishing the Civil War/reconstruction and correcting years of reactionary apartheid.

The centrist government that makes you feel comfortable is also the same one that has dropped the ball repeatedly on existential threats like climate change, inequality, etc for the last 50 years or so but keeps failing upwards.

But, our system is badly designed to either keep it that way or disintegrate in a MAGA slide into authoritarianism, but at least the "radical left" can still be blamed despite never holding power ever

Nope. She has to drop out on her own. And I highly doubt she'd ever take one for the team. Contrast this to the Democrats where Al Gross dropped out so he wouldn't split the vote with Peltola. In November, the ballot is Peltola and three Republicans so there's tons of vote splitting potential.

Who even is the radical left? AOC, Warren, and Bernie? Don’t really see many of them in DC

the radical right agenda is steady getting passed tho…abortion being illegal at the time of fertilization with no exception for rape or incest…banning books…attempting to rewrite history…don’t say gay…wanting to go after gay marriage and contraceptives

I was wondering the same thing to put this "radical left" into context, no one on the left is out there talking about stolen elections or space lasers.......I guess the squad could be labeled that but that's a stretch, AOC says some things that make me cringe at times but NOTHING on the level of MTG or Gaetz or hell, 20 other crazy talking gop`ers. The gop likes to do this to prove there base that every dem is a nut job but in reality the left doesn't have nearly the same rhetoric as the right and I think comes from the facts that they constantly have to distract from there cult leader and distract from whatever is the crime of the week from their fearless leader. If this was Joe Biden, the radical right and the fox variety show would be salivating and impeaching him...........and as many of us on the left have said, if Joe Biden did the same thing, we would be calling for his ouster just as loud. Country over Party, might want to look that up gop members

My impression of the MAGA crowd is that they truly believe there is a radical
left and that includes everyone with “D” on their party affiliation and even some with an “R”.

538 has it currently at 76 in 100 to 24 in 100 (as compared to 88 in 100 to 12 in 100 in June)... question if this trend toward Dem will continue or has it stalled out

At some point, this trend likely hits the realities of redistricting, unfortunately - meaning the Dems have to outperform 2020 in a year where young voters vote a whole lot less. The main hope is that women come out at an unprecendented rate.

The other interesting quirk is that if the GOP only wins a slim majority, the crazies are going to have veto power over McCarthy, which is going to cause all sorts of hell. You can probably could on a debt ceiling fiasco, government shutdowns, etc.

Also, if women do come out at an unprecedented rate, it matters where. Likely they show up in States with very strict Abortion bans (solid R states). That's a very tall hill to climb, but if they do climb over it, it's going to be a shocker.

In a sad way it's probably better for the GOP to have a big majority in the House than a small one if those are the only options.

polls have not been accurately tracking Dem turnout post-Dobbs

Democrats are winning these special elections and outperforming expectations for a reason

We just saw what happened in the NY special election, and now Alaska where Palin was never expected to lose regardless of how unlikable she is. We just had the 1st Democrat elected to a House Seat in 50 years with the turnout in Alaska being the highest for an August election since 2014.

I have already posted the info showing the amount of women and young people registering who are overwhelmingly Dem

I watch some financial yt and they still harp about the Green New Deal and point to Europe as confirmation as Far Left lunacy.

Cons view AOC's Progressive wing with Ilyan as "radical". I imagine it includes stuff like that (environment), the trans cultural wars with pronouns and "men being pregnant", and I guess reparations/CRT is what they think are radical.

Cons use those culture narratives to scare voters into thinking Dems will overspend on useless ****. Maybe some truth in that except Cons overspending is more or less the same useless ****...that they like or (their 1% dog whistle owners) directly benefit from.
