This is a big loss for Minnesota Judo as it’s a small community but pretty tight but. I’m going to be meeting with another Sensei tonight to talk about it. There are a few other older Senseis who are also not in good health and in the next couple of years there could be a major shifting of the guard. For me I’m in line to take over for some of them but I don’t feel like I can fill their shoes. I’m still recovering from rotator cuff surgery and it will be months before I can be back even teaching.
Is there anybody ever that wasn't a total d-bag that didn't feel that way about taking over from their mentor? I mean, Darth Vader was kind of a dick to Obi Wan, but other than that, I'm sure there was a time when your Sensei felt like a total impostor. I obviously am not qualified to judge whether you would be good in the role or not, but I feel pretty confident in guessing that you're much more qualified for the job than you think you are. I'm sorry for your loss.
Found out that my Sensei donated his body to the U of MN med school so more good will come from his life. In judo we take a lot of falls and concussion is a real danger. I don’t think he suffered from anything like CTE but it will be interesting what they find from a lifetime of martial arts. It sounds like he didn’t want a service but we’re going to have a ceremony to honor him at the Minnesota state Judo tournament.
What a blow for you, @rocketsjudoka. It sounds like he was a big part of your life and left you with some wonderful memories, something for you to treasure. I don't doubt that he's resting in peace.
We had a ceremony for him today at the first local tournament since he passed away. He was posthumously promoted and his Judo Gi laid to rest. I admit I was wiping back tears and wasn’t the only one. It was a scene seeing all these tough grizzled Judoka crying.
Very sorry for your loss. I'm really glad that you had the chance to study, learn from, and know him. It sounds like a valuable experience that you've had.
Ok I try to keep an even keel but this is disgusting and beneath you. I understand we have a disagreement in other topics but that doesn’t mean I dislike you but to personally throw out a charge about someone who meant a lot to me who you have no knowledge about is completely contemtible
Very sorry for your loss. That remark was definitely in poor taste and your reaction is totally understandable. Seems more like an attempt to make a point about not speaking ill of the recently deceased. But someone coming to this thread without the context of the other thread may not read it that way. He should apologize and either remove the comment or edit the post to make the context more clear so people understand it's not a serious accusation.
Judoka, Sorry for your loss - think about all the good times you have shared with him and let his memories always stay with you. Fatty or Roscoe or whatever new name you are going to use next, That post was completely uncalled for and all I have to say is that you suck at life. This whole board would be better off without you posting on it.
You’re too nice - he should be banned - he does stupid things all the time here but even that post went over the line.
Over the line. Mark it zero dude. @rocketsjudoka you handled that much cooler than you would have. Props to you. What an incredibly horrible thing for a person to say about a someone in a thread that is a tribute to them and their passing.
