you are a very special Republican. I mean honestly, even the most die hard republicans struggle to tolerate, Nevermind celebrate Ted Cruz. Cruz is beta, beyond weak, reviled and made fun of by other republicans, wanna be, can’t be, never will be, and not even Trumpy enough. He’s the worst player on your team, he is everyone’s b-tch.

Lindsey Graham went on Fox News last night and said if Trump is prosecuted there will be riots in the streets.

He has lived a full life. I don't know if it was happy or fulfilling, but maybe he found it to be so. But it was a full and eventful life and he's nearly at the average life expectancy now. It wouldn't be surprising or tragic should he pass away now. That's the fate that awaits all of us. I don't know why we, who don't personally know him, would mourn his passing even if we didn't hate his guts. Bush Sr. died in 2018. I like him okay, but didn't feel much of anything.

I can't fathom why Texans would re-elect Cruz as a person, but he's around like a cockroach because there are more Texans who vote for him than the ones who don't and vote for someone else.

I'm not affected by it much either, but presidents and public figures are just like celebrities who invade our homes with different charms and personas.

Some people would make events to publicly mourn their passing like Kobe or Lady Di. I'd imagine Bush Sr. impacted us more indirectly than the former two.

I don't see it as a threat from Graham. More straight truth speaking.

Trump will no doubt ... not ... go quietly into the night. Trump will hate going to prison an order of magnitude more than losing in 2020. Trump will incite the mob. If it takes a Civil War to get Trump out of jail, ...

I don't agree with DeSantis on social issues, and that is a big impediment to me ever being able to support him as President.

Having said that, him being politically astute and tapping into the same supporters as Trump isn't proof that he is crooked.

DeSantis has a very impressive resume of his own, has been very successful at a relatively young age.

I am open to the possibility that DeSantis is corrupt, but other than the issue with the woman in change of COVID in Florida claiming that the governor lied about the COVID death rate, I am not aware of any possible corruption.

Sure, but why did he say that? In the context, it looks like he's saying prosecution of Trump's crimes would be an injustice compared to the treatment of Hillary Clinton over the email server, and implies that riots would be a manifestation of righteous anger against an injustice. He is not just predicting violence, but pre-emptively justifying violence -- in effect encouraging that violence.

I am mostly curious to see if Graham can keep his homosexuality under wraps long enough to prevent him being voted out of office.

You might be surprised how the threats could have an impact along the way. Take into account this Trump judge … not even being in the jurisdiction of the MAL case and Trump hand picking her to submit a grievance under, appointing a special master, is an indication that it can alter the process. She’s a real judge but I’m sure she still watches FoxNews and if she and others in the system can be deferential or at least slow the process to show good grace to Trump… I think ALOT of people will go to lengths to not risk their safety.

And regarding witnesses…We also all know that Jeffrey Epstein was murdered so he wouldn’t talk. Even if it wasn’t Trump that obvious hit has to be in the back of peoples mind which is why the prosecutors are so protective of their informants. I wouldn’t even be scared of Trumps goons or these MAGA idiots. It’s the Russians or Saudis I would be concerned with. If you think that MBS wouldn’t have someone shakedown someone like Cassidy Hutchinson while on vacation in Cancun I think your crazy. Those guys, if they think Trump can get back in power, would LOVE to have that level of leverage on Trump where they could say that he’d be in jail and not in the White House if it wasn’t for them.

This is exactly why I don't think a DeSantis presidency would be the existential disaster, for us and the world, that a second Trump administration would be. It could be a political nightmare to someone who votes on the left, but a DeSantis administration would not be motivated exclusively by one deranged narcissist's sense of personal grievance against the world.

DeSantis has skin in the game when it comes to American institutions: the US Navy, Yale, Harvard, the House of Representatives, etc. He isn't going to burn it all down because he thinks that the government belongs to him. He won't set the world order on fire by withdrawing from NATO, pulling troops from South Korea, etc. because he understands why American presence still matters around the world.

I get that some of our right-leaning friends like Trump because he makes us on the left mad. But DeSantis will do that, too! And he (probably) won't upend everything that you think is great about America because he's a giant child who couldn't handle the idea of popular rejection.

For all his bluster, my feeling of Trump is more of a beached whale than some threat in the shadows waiting to take back his ring of power.

The irony of his supporters bashing sleepy joe only to carry water for an aging husk of flab shouldn't be too far gone for them right?

Very good and measured post. Those who describe DeSantis as some kind of Satan "because Trump" are simply wrong.

And as much as I despise Trump, his administration was right about many things. They told him to say this:

And they were right. (I wouldn't give Trump too much credit when it comes to this, but his conservative administration - and I would think those kinds of sensible people would be serving in a DeSantis administration.)

I think DeSantis would be a tough, hard-nosed, good old conservative President who would re-affirm the USA's leadership in the world, but without burning everything down like Trump would - @dumbartonbass stated it perfectly.

That might still piss off non-conservatives, but it is very, very different from having a narcissist egomaniac who doesn't care about anything but himself at the helm.
