Didn't watched the game but going by the highlights, it didn't seem like a great game for Sengun.

In the first half, Jokic had his way when Sengun was defending him in the paint. Turkey then brought in a bigger center to cover Jokic and slid Sengun to the PF position.

In the second half when Turkey was making a big run back into the game, Sengun made some good contributions. But with 4:14 remaining, he made a defensive lapse that gave Serbia a pivotal layup. Then with about a minute left, Turkey called a play for him and he had a few chances to score in the paint to cut the lead to 3, but paint was packed and he couldn't do it.

Also, he seemed a little low energy at times and he wasn't racing down the floor like he usually does with the Rockets.

I know it's a lot to criticism from watching just the highlights, but I'm still waiting to see the star potential in this guy that others have. I do think he can turn out to be a solid player down the road, and fortunately he's got a few more years to figure things out.

I watched the whole game twice.

Also disappointed that he could not score 78 points, grab 56 rebounds, 13 blocks and 24 assists against Jokic's Serbia. He was only 3plus in +/- and only 25 in efficiency.

He also out of gas and could not play whole game. He warmed the bench a grand 5 minutes 36 seconds.

Rubbish. Even Jokic was better than him. Same efficiency number, less rebounds/blocks/assists than Alpi but Jokic scored more.

Rockets should rid Alpi off and acquire Jokic.

Alright, dude or dudette. No need to get offended LOL.

Like I said, I was going by the highlights. I'm waiting for the regular season to see how it all comes together.

Becoming a solid and reliable player in a few years is more than enough for Sengun.

Do you cross reference the highlights with stats? Seems like going by stats he, at the very least, had a pretty good game

I did see those stats. So yeah, it probably wasn't a bad game overall.
(Though TBH, I don't give that much credence to "good" numbers as much as I did.)

And another big caveat was that Sengun had to go up against an MVP who is obviously a force on the low block at the start.

Like I said, I'm trying to keep an open mind. But at the same time, I just keep seeing gaps in his game that preclude me from penciling him in as a future All Star.

i get it you dont see a star impact hes already having but youre not even seeing a potential?!

what does the potential even mean to you? somebody who shoot a lot of 3s and has fancy dribbles?

i liked your post but unfortunately dont see a potential to be a good and contributing member of cf

Nah, my actual bias is that I don't have a lot of love for Porter's game either. I'd put Sengun as a better prospect than him.
As for Green, his talent level is obvious, but time will tell if he can go beyond personal numbers and develop it to lead and elevate his team.

Personally I'm more excited about this year's rookies, Smith and Easton.

It's pretty amazing that you can keep an open mind while being sure he'll never be an Allstar, based on a game you didn't even watch.

In fact, some people would even say that just saying you have an open mind doesn't mean you're actually open minded.

    Crazy.

Well, I didn't say I was sure Sengun would NEVER be an All Star.
I said my opinion differed from those who seem pretty certain he'd be a perennial one.

And as someone following the Rockets pretty avidly, my opinion isn't just based on this World Cup game.

Lastly I wasn't boasting I had an open mind. I said I'm trying to keep an open mind about Sengun, but I do see some holes in his game. Plus, he's got a few years to figure things out.

    My two cents.
