Yea I’d rather live in Florida, Texas, or Tennessee. I can live well for $150-$200k per year. In California you couldn’t live in a slum apartment on this salary… they need more and greater taxes for inefficiency or in some case as mentioned in this thread prior,..pure stupidity to do crack or acid at a centralized location

btw I’m not against innovation but I think there’s a stupid way to do it …in only 13 mere years you can buy zero cars in California unless it’s electric…what do you think the electric grid will rely on? How do you handle logistics? Support charging stations? I’m not totally against it, I like clean air but transient to hybrids then electric in a greater time span would have been more logical

What @Rileydog dog says is nonsense as usual plus we got a couple restaurants you would think lol, again There are some incredible houses in Nolensville Murfreesboro Franklin and Brentwood…tons of peeps with education. Great places to live in the burbs to raise a family in the locations I listed (without the crime nonsense and infinite high taxes) and the houses are beautiful all you have to do is take a look… as far as the variety of restaurants, he does have a small point there but we’ve got that covered now

    @Rileydog
    Houston does lack in nature
Agree that it has better food but it’s a much larger city and more diverse
Some people don’t want large cities they want medium size that’s the entire point of all the Los Angeles people and Bay Area people leaving
They don’t want to be stuck on the 101 at 1am
They don’t want be crammed together

Caliterra is nice , check around the 3:00 minute mark here, SE of Nashville is where all the California exodus is going which includes the areas I mentioned…this area is beautiful, I love the front porch style master plan community , tons of development…I do a lot of business here and been to these streets shown and even recognized homes where I worked in the video so I’m partial I suppose

you seem to be fixated on Californians moving to Tennessee or Florida. I don’t know what Trader Joe’s and In and Out Burgers have anything to do with what I said about Nashville’s lack of food and culture options vis a vis a place like Houston.

I don’t know where to begin in a response, but it seems like you either didn’t read what I wrote, or conflated things.

Nashville is fine. It lacks food and culture options. Seems like you don’t disagree with that. I’m sure it has nice houses and subdivisions, that wasn’t really my point. Likewise, being a decent size city with an excellent private college, I’m also sure there are plenty of educated smart people in Nashville.

my comments about other parts of Tennessee seeming to me to be like visiting wal mart in Montgomery county or a bait shop … well they pertain to the other parts of Tennessee I visited. I don’t think there is any serious debate as to the demographics, education and probably intellect of the folks in gatlinburgh, seviervelle and pigeon forge, if you’ve actually ever been to those places.

Perhaps it’s not so much that I typed some nonsense, as much as it is you didn’t read carefully.

I take no issue with any of this. I just expressed that I wouldn’t want to live in Tennessee for the reasons I stated. I don’t think I mischaracterized Nashville or the more rural parts of Tennessee that I’ve seen, did I?

I know where I’ll start …with your last sentence…Had you stop prior to there and I’m pretty much in agreement but when you say ”Tennessee makes you appreciate Houston” …that statement seems conflated from the beginning so of course my response is going to be equally responsive to a statement as such…it’s nonsensical…How do you compare the worse aspects of a state and say that in itself makes you appreciate Houston? There is no doubt Gatlinburg Sevierville and Pigeon Forge is not the bastion of culture and quality living lol, These are backwood tourist based areas But there is no doubt there is a mass exodus from California to states like Florida Tennessee and Texas so the question is why …I can literally walk you from my house to the street in my subdivision one block away and show you four cars with California license plates. I just don’t see the sense in saying a state makes you appreciate a city…To me this does not make sense it seems to be an unclear unfair comparison

Regardless I have lived in Houston half my life, I going back either late October or early November and I’m gonna have a good time I will enjoy it…Based on what I have seen I don’t think I could apply that statement to any city in California whether medium or large city…12 or 13 years California is going to have an electric grid problem like you’ve never seen . People are very afraid of the future and consequences for a valid reason

I fail to see how Californians moving to Tennessee is relevant to my observations regarding the parts of Tennessee that I have seen. You don’t even seem to disagree with my comments about Nashville (lacking in food and culture options) or the other parts of TN that I mentioned.

I wholly respect your right to prefer Nashville, just like how I prefer Houston. I’m just struggling to understand the point you are making since I don’t appear to have said anything that either you or Tinman disagree with.

There is this weird fixation on how Californians are moving elsewhere, as if that is probative of everything. It feels like you think that’s some indication of who is winning a culture war that seems terribly important to you. I don’t know. I’ll post separately on the whole california v Tennessee business. I just fail to see how it bears any relevance to anything I posted.

    They’re in Houston too

However it’s not their number once choice , probably moved due to employer moving headquarters.
The Nashville part was brought by @ROXRAN
I just noticed the Los Angeles news made some
Segments about how popular Tennessee is for LA folk

Oh gosh darn it … why is the news in Cali weirdly fixated on why Cali residents want to leave?

so picking up on this topic. Admittedly, I haven’t done research on the topic of people leaving CA. Seems to me there are several reasons one might leave CA:

    - my gut says cost of living is probably the top reason by a wide margin.
    - As it relates to the big cities, I suppose traffic, crime and homelessness are potential factors too.
    - I personally know people who are moving because they can sell their CA home for a lot of money, move somewhere else, buy a nice house, pocket the difference and either retire or accelerate their retirement. That feels like an investment choice.

There are a crap ton of people in CA for good reason. You have unmatched natural beauty, with whatever one might want … oceans, forests, mountains, wine country, you name it. The weather is outstanding. Broad range of food and culture. Three of the greatest cities in the country by any standard (although I don’t care for LA, don’t get the hype. SF and SD are phenomenal).

People who stay are willing to pay a higher cost of living. People who are leaving aren’t willing to do so anymore. Or they are tired of traffic. Or they don’t like big city crime or homelessness.

So people move and can choose where to go. I find it completely unsurprising that folks from CA have moved to Austin, Portland (people in Portland can’t stand Californians bc they are taking over and driving up prices), Nashville and the like. Each of those places are nice places to live, offer a good amount of natural beauty (might be safe to assume that californians care about that?), and lower cost of living.

I struggle to see how that is supposed to mean CA is worse (or better) than those places, or that maybe liberal Californians are seeing the light and becoming republicans? It is simply a decision that one makes based on circumstances and priorities at that point in time.

It seems to me that it is close to inarguable that california is an objectively nicer place than most places in this country … IF you have the money to live or visit there.

It is likewise inarguable that CA is more important to the country than almost any other state (except perhaps NY and Texas). Likewise, on the world stage, CA and NY are probably the most important states. I guess you could throw in Texas for medical and energy, and FLorida for Disney.

California simply has a huge unfair advantage over other states - exceptional natural beauty and weather.

I realize I’ve failed to make a coherent point, except to say I’m not sure that there is much significance to people making decisions to go to or leave CA.

Seems unremarkable to me that CA is too expensive and too crowded for some people, so people are choosing to go to places that offer some natural beauty but that cost less.

It also seems unremarkable to me that CA is one of the most important states in this country, if not the most important.
