I wanted Marte and Bryant if we didn’t bring back Correa. Bryant has been hurt much of the year but he just made too much sense as a corner OF/1B even 3B in an emergency piece for years to come. If we’d have done those moves we’d have had zero holes to fill moving forward and no flexibility and probably no room to sign JV next year. I wanted to move Brantley to make those two salaries work by the way. And then have Bryant take over for a Yuli next year.
I’ve never liked Click. He’s done nothing interesting or daring or risky, he’s got a middle reliever fetish in the FA market, he’s seen a net drain in talent on the MLB level since he’s been at the helm, and we are sitting here with 30 million that didn’t get spent on a team with clear holes but w great shot at winning the title. If he goes I will shed zero tears for him. That said: he hasn’t screwed anything up- which is obviously huge when you inherit a team as good as the Astros. His worst contract decision was Odo and although I believe that hurt flexibility last year and maybe in the preseason this year it was an understandable hedge (I guess-I hated it and was proven right) and he got out of the deal without causing any harm for next year. He’s been saddled with a relic in the dugout that’s probably actively hurting the product on the field through bizarre playing decisions and I’m sure undercutting what he wants to do. His biggest bet- to let Correa go, makes us a worse team this year (that money isn’t being spent and we are under the cap) but was obviously justified in a long term sense by saving s ton of money and getting similar production from the rookie. Losing Springer obviously still is a hole we haven’t filled. His first two drafts were God Awful but he had no resources, and this years draft seems to be pretty good. If Crane wants to bring Stearns in I will burn Clicks house to the ground and then drive him to the airport to save him the time and trouble of packing, but there are many many many worse GM’s we could have brought in that would have probably actively harmed this team. Writing the prosecution and defense of Click in his situation here just adds even More mazel net at what an incredible job JL did in building this organization. Truly remarkable all time type job building this quasi dynasty that was awesome for 5 years and THEN capped off the first run by sending up MVP level guys like Alvarez and Tucker while simultaneously trotting out 4 above average pitchers. Boost had heard of that are cheap to extend the window wide open through 2026. Great job on extension by click for YA and LMJ. Now he needs to extend 3 of the guys in the rotation and Tucker and I will give him a ton of credit if he gets that done.
Have to disagree on this one, at best we are treading water. There may be a few gems in this years draft but it was mostly wasted opportunity in my opinion.
We’re literally on pace for the best record in franchise history so I find it hard to believe that Crane is on the cusp of firing Click. I’m sure he’s not thrilled at how things shook out re: CF but I think these “rumors” are much adieu about nothing.
LOL. My Brother's Mother's Cousin's Best Friend's neighbor told me that Crane is firing Click after Dusty. Do they realize they have the best record in ASTROS HISTORY...to date? They could be the Yankees after June 18th.
Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Click pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
I would normally think the idea of Click being on the hot seat is a bit far fetched. Stearns is interesting, though. Crane could hire him on as President of Baseball Operations and sell it as an opportunity to add one of the more respected executives in the game. I think there's been a couple of teams that have made that sort of change before. Click would probably move on, I'd guess.
That'd be unprecedented to my knowledge. Never seen a PoBO hired after a GM. Every instance I've seen is the GM is promoted to PoBO and promotes someone to his old position or an outsider is directly hired as PoBO and then hires his GM. Click would absolutely leave if he lost his position as final baseball decision-maker and would be right to do so.
I suspect CF was thought to be covered with Meyers, McCormick and Leon in the minors with LF covered by Alvarez and Brantley returning. I believe Mancini was the third option, even though he's better than at least one player every night and often 2-4 players. I also believe Vasquez was supposed to get half the starts.
Wondering if we would look at Nomar Mazara whom was released a few weeks ago . Plays multiple spots. Idk about cf but does play Cornerz
Now that Mancini is playing most every day I would not want to give Dusty any reason to sit him back down. It's already clear that he is going to start Yuli 90% of the games. It's going to be hard enough getting him to keep Trey in the lineup when Diaz returns. The only position this team should consider is a true CF. If Leon or Brinson are going to be post season eligible they would need to be added to the 40 man before 9/1/22. I think the 2022 Meyers experiment needs to be over and one of those 2 brought up. If it's Leon he should start regularly to see if he can he a playoff starter. ( I know he's hurt but I heard it's just a 2 week or so injury). It's too late to impact his rookie eligibility. If it's Brinson, Chas plays CF with him as the back up
Leon getting hurt has almost sealed the deal on that dream. We are screwed in cf if McCormick doesn’t come back soon.
Very unfortunate timing for an injury for Leon.I would take the risk to add him to the 40 man. It's a move which will have to be made at some point anyway.
Can anybody give me a quick and dirty requirements on when a minor leaguer has to be put on the 40 man or be exposed to minor/major league Rule 5?
