I got that now however the hype around White was real at the time whereas Garuba was projected to be just a role player. I was recalling people going for Anthony Mason with LeBron's strength when talking about Royce.
Look, all I'm saying is don't even think about starting a similar thread about Josh Christopher. Don't even think about it.
Bunch of non-intelligence on this board. ANYBODY who says 3&D doesn’t know basketball. What in the $&@“ have you seen that indicates this guy is going to be Klay Thompson like with his outside shot?????He can’t even hit mid-range shots and never in his career has been a good shooter. Sure….at the NBA level all of a sudden he is going to teach himself to be the next Steph Curry!!! He can’t even teach himself how to stop a bunch of Big Macs from going in his mouth.
Thanks Jontro….now that’s a much better “high iq” assessment. I love Garuba’s defense potential, but sadly don’t see him ever becoming a shooter in this league. He’s good right at the basket for putbacks and dunks, but brings absolutely nothing else offensively….not even passing skills or a midrange shot.
I like him as a backup/rare spot starter.. Even out of shape, dude gobbles up rebounds... Since we "rebuilding" , let him get a feel for the physicality and stamina needed to be effective.. He doesn't seem to get in the way of Silas's brilliant offensive system...
Whats the point of this post? or even better, what is the point from OP even exist? The point of Garuba = a late first rounder coming from a sucessful FIBA early start. meaning it is worth the risk.
He won't even be able to buy a beer at the all-star game this year and he may develop into a great defensive player. The point of Garuba is to give him the space and time to see if he turns potential into reality.
10 pts 6 boards 21minutes. Plus 23 on the floor. Against a very average at best Netherlands team. Usman is a backup for Spain, and at best a 3rd or 4th big off the bench for us right now. Like a 5-10 minutes per game player, IMHO, he needs a year in the Gleague to just play....and learn. DD
Credit though to Stone as Garuba is the ONLY player he has missed on and nobody hits 100% of the time in this league.
