When you're third best hitter (OPS) is also your highest OBP guy, then hes the perfect lead off hitter.
I'd like someone to point out Dusty's brilliant strategy that gained wins the last two post seasons where we ultimately lost.
Hmmmmm.... not sure why you mentioned Gurriel because I didn't mention him at all because he isn't one of those "plenty of guys who have power hitting behind him".
YES. Admittedly a small sample size, but that's what it is. To be fair, he's hitting 405 OBP, but is only 5th best OPS 776 behind Alvarez 999, Altuve 884, Bregman 847 and Mancini 821 with two more on the bench Tucker 815 and Henderson (898 in AAA).
I mentioned him because instead of batting at the bottom of the order when he plays, he is cemented in the 2 hole for some reason known only to Saint Dusty. Bottom third, not necessarily 9th.
In the post I responded to, it dealt with you suggesting Altuve bat further down. Pretty sure not many (if any) are suggesting the Yuli continue batting second on a regular basis. Is there any realistic thing Baker does in your mind that contributes to the Astros best all time 125 game record?
I have no experience outside of fandom, and no special insight or access. But I have been a nearly obsessive baseball and Astros fan for nearly 45 years. Dusty's lineups make me crazy But I think his pitching decisions and staff management this year have been great. And I think that the team over achieved in the playoffs both in 2020 and 2021. 2020 because the team was without Verlander and Alvarez, Bregman was clearly not healthy, and the bullpen was a bunch of unproven rookies with no command. 2021 because once Grienke lost all stamina after COVID and McCullers was injured there simply wasn't enough pitching to win 2 7 game series. Now you can say they won despite Baker, but in my opinion he did a great job. And I fully expect this year he makes similar good decisions in the post seasons and if the baseball gods will it he gets his World Series to complete his very enviable and admirable career.
The Astros are doing Correa a solid by helping ensure the Twins don't make the playoffs, no one wants to get stuck in Minnesota any longer than they have to. Being able to rob the Twins of 35 million dollars while getting to move the hell out of the state before October even starts....before the first snowflake falls, while looking for the next team to rob is an absolute best case scenario for him. I wish him luck going into his longest vacation since 2016.
definitely want him re-signed. He can play LF here at MM or be that primary 1B as Yuli tails off. Regardless his bat is damn good and a great addition to this team.
