Bullpens are notoriously volatile. Nobody expected our pen to dominate last postseason. I don't care what you think you have, nobody really knows how their pen will fare in October. While nobody should be completely ignoring the recent slump, I don't think people should overreact either. It could just be a rough patch of bad luck.
The Astros had never won 80 of their first 125 games. Which means this team went crazy to end the season in 2019 (28-9, 29-8?)
The regression by the bullpen will have starters relieving starters in the postseason Hopefully just a slump I don't have much confidence in Will Smith either
I wonder if Vasquez will ever start a night game? Who starts in CF while McCormick is out? When do DUBON and GURRIEL get rest? Does Hensley make an appearance before being sent back down?
Nah wasn’t referring to any post in particular, didn’t even read one last night, more of a feels like moment.
4 of Vazquez's 7 starts have been night games. Dubon has never started more than 1/2 of the games with Houston in any one month. Why does he need rest?
Dusty needs to quit being an ******* and get Hensley in there (unless he’s already had a major league AB and I missed it). Every skip should get a first time up guy an AB within a night or two of showing up imo. Making the show is such an amazing and life changing thing for a guy you just have to get them in a game bc you never know if you will never see them again and you don’t want to Moonlight Graham.
Their BABIP suggested bad luck this past month... but Stanek/Montero were expected to regress some as is. Their bullpen is still in a better overall position compared to any of their other past playoff teams. Their rotation is also in a better position compared to any of their other past playoff teams. That's why I thought this year's team (while nobody considers them to be one of the greatest Astros teams of all time, despite their record)... has a much better chance of dominating the post-season vs. past teams.
This is not the best team the Astros have fielded in the Altuve Era. The pitching this year has been great and likely be the key to a long playoff run, as long the offense can score some runs. We might even start to consider that the manager deserves a little credit
No Mancini today. He hit a home run last night. And remember guys, Yordan likes to play left sometimes, and Chaz… err, we’ll we’ve got Dubon too and he needs playing time, and we need Yuli for ground balls, and anyways, that Dego already gets at least 3 games a week, geez!!! -Dusty Baker
