Bregman is too short for 1B. I don't believe his listed height for 1 second.

An alternative is for MLB to grant Franchises to CITIES and not OWNERS. Owners would not be permitted to relocate outside of defined geographic parameters.

What if the cities owned the teams kind of in the fashion of Green Bay? Would be interesting.

Probably not. It’s not realistic but I think it could work well for both sides. Right now a lot of players are somewhat marginalized by the arbitration arrangement.

Let's look at Josh Reddick and Michael Brantley ( for argument we will call his a 4 yr $64 M deal)

Josh Reddick totalled 7.1 bWAR in 4 seasons and was paid $52M. That's about $7.3M per WAR.

A bit expensive but not tragic or enough to hinder the team but he was terrible his final season.

He also greatly contributed to a World Series championship.

Michael Brantley totalled 11.2 bWAR in 4 seasons and was paid $64M. That's about $5.7M per WAR.

Much better return for the team but he too did not give much of a return his final season due to injury and small decline.

He also didn't contribute to a World Series win.

As a fan which do you prefer?

Show me the clips and interviews where they defend Altuve. I’m not saying they don’t exist. I’m just having trouble finding all the players that went out of their way to defend Altuve the way Correa did. I just googled “Gurriel defends Altuve” and two links about about Correa defending Altuve popped up first.

No one worships Correa. He made some of the greatest plays and had some of the most clutch hits and home runs in Astros’ history. You’re not going to stop me from singing his praises. Gurriel was great too. You don’t need to blow out Correa’s candle to keep Gurriel’s shining in your heart. There’s room for both in there. Open it up a little.

I don't think he is shorter than Bagwell

But I would not like a move. He is a much more valuable 3B than 1B.

Hypothetically Correa gets signed to return this offseason. What do you do?

Bregman and Altuve are signed for 2 more years at expensive but not albatross type salaries. They are still productive enough to play almost every day and can't be traded.

Pena has proven he belongs. He is a top 10-15 starting shortstop but not an all star. He is also young, cheap, and controllable for 5 more seasons.

None of these 4 players really fit in the OF or 1B.

The only 2 reasonable options are to trade Pena ( for an equal level 1B or OF) or to juggle all 4 at 3 positions.

I would trade Pena but having injury insurance and resting Altuve an extra game per week as he ages sounds like a winning strategy.

    2B: Altuve 107g ( 2× 10day IL, 75%, remaining g)
    Bregman 55g

    3B: Bregman: 73g ( 1× 10day IL, 85% remaining g)
    Correa: 45g
    Pena: 44g

    SS: Pena: 86g (1× 10day IL, 86% remaining g)
    Correa 76g ( 2× 10day IL, 86% remaining g)

Something like that might work for 2 seasons until Altuve and Bregman's contracts end.

For 99% of employees, this is the real world. It's called Employment at Will. Employment contracts for term are the exception.

Bregman should probably start learning to throw left handed now.

For what it’s worth a lot of Mn reporting is that Correa loves being on the Twins. Not sure how much stock I put into that.

He had a long wait in the bottom of the 5th. He threw his most pitches in one inning in the 6th. From the looks of things in the dugout, he didnt seen to have a problem with getting pulled.

Moronic. Outside of some smaller injuries Springer is a monster at the plate, plates 2 OF positions well, and is clutch as hell in the Playoffs. WTF are you talking about?

Wasn't watching myself, but it appears he was on a 90 pitch limit and Dusty DID ask him if he wanted to stay in. I have ZERO problem with how it was handled by all parties. Protecting that arm for the playoffs is priority one.

    https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/gametracker/recap/MLB_20220823_MIN@HOU/

"Manager Dusty Baker said Verlander was on a pitch limit of 90 Tuesday as the Astros transition from a six to five-man rotation. But he still asked Verlander if he wanted to keep going since he hadn't allowed a hit.

''After six innings at ... 91 pitches, you know it's not going to be one of those nights,'' Verlander said. ''Maybe 15 years ago, 10 years ago when I loved throwing 130-something. But not now and specifically not after Tommy John in my first season back.''"
