I’m still waiting for your “shining moment”. So far nothing but sh*t takes and ridiculous duplication threads.

Has been said. He is a kid and is STILL A PROJECT!

Did someone really say run Chriss, Stein out there instead? Not much difference. None of these dudes are gonna be playing when things are tight. None of these dudes are gonna win/lose games for us.

MAYBE Boban can give you some OK minutes when we play teams with average guards and bigs that cannot shoot from outside allowing him to play off them a bit.

Those guys are journeymen at best. If we lose one or two of those dudes when finalizing the roster to keep Garuba so we can continue to work with him it is not the end of the world. Maybe by 2024-2025 season when his salary jumps up to like 4.5m we can talk about trading or waiving.

The Rockets are not going to move him especially they used a 1st round pick to get him.

The kid has potential, is young, and part of our nucleus going forward. What is even the point of the OP?

You made an assumption that I made that point

I’m not comparing them in the sense of saying they will fail for the same reasons

I’m comparing them in the sense that Garuba is the most useless draft pick since Royce white

Can Garuba be the playa we all hate on this year?

    Asking for a friend.

To soon to call him a bust and pivot with another player but it's not looking good. My biggest issue with him is he lack feel for the game. Way to reactionary and while having quick feet he is a slow leaper. Makes no sense how you can move quickly but can't get off the floor with any quickness. It's baffling.

They drafted four guys that year and kind of split on the sure things(Jalen and Sengun) and took some flyers on back half of the draft(Christopher and Garuba). I mean, when you are bottoming out, and drafting at the end of the draft there isn't really anything wrong with taking high upside guys even if they are going to be projects because you aren't trying to be good immediately anyway. Garuba rated as one of the best defenders in the draft last year statistically in limited minutes against better international players. I think injuries prevented him from ever getting enough run to get him into NBA shape and getting used to faster players. He's still a huge guy with decent instincts and on one of the worst teams in the league he has way too much upside to just throw him away at this point unless someone is willing to offer a future first for him.

I don't see what we have to lose in attempting to develop a couple of high upside guys - the draft is FULL of risk and everyone you draft can't be contributors immediately. Teams like the Raptors, Bucks, and Celtics are good examples of taking guys with high upside and being smart about player development and over time they have managed to built contenders and solid rosters around the fruits of those labors but this is a future state game, you aren't going to get maximum fruit from all your trees from the start. That's just not the game when rebuilding from the draft.

Maybe losing some pounds could help with that...

He should be in the best shape of his life, the reason he can’t get off the floor is because he’s carrying too much weight. He can shuffle laterally but no lift or explosion.

Hopefully he heads straight to Houston after burning some lbs at the tournament.

I was a big fan of getting Garuba after watching videos of him playing for Real Madrid and reading some stuff here and there. Heck, he joined Real Madrid's youth academy at age 11. They clearly saw a lot of talent there to spend years developing him. Maybe that's part of his problem. He was nurtured and brought up by that team and organization, and coming over here to a far different environment has been a struggle for him. Maybe.

So far, he's been a disappointment, but I don't know how much of that is a series of injuries combined with sporadic playing time, or if he's contributed to it himself by not working as hard as he needs to on his conditioning. I holding on to my original optimism about the guy, but Usman has to show us what he can do this season, show us the value that led to getting his shot at the NBA with the Rockets.

With WCS , and even Jabari Smith .. garuba has competition for already limited backup C minutes for Sengun .

but , unfortunately. Injuries happen . Garuba will get an opportunity, let’s see if he’s ready.

maybe he starts outplaying guys in practice .

Tate and tari could also find themselves playing 5 if we really go small .
