Forrest Whitley felt something was wrong with Arm 2 years ago. He was told he would potentially get Tommy John, was happy finally got the Surgery.

Now he looks more Confident and Relaxed. Especially Trusts his Arm now.

My favorite pitcher from this draft was taken as an UDFA.
Austin Temple has had 3 starts in FCL
    2022 MiLB Stats: ERA 0.00, IP 7.0, SO 10, WHIP 0.29

You’re excited a 5 year college senior is dominating complex ball?

I am. He missed 2020 (covid) and most of 21 (injury) so he only had 3 yrs. Should move fast he has a fairly high ceiling and is physically more mature. Best case a #2/3 starter should be a lot of fun to watch next year.

This is the case for most everybody this year so you have to knock a season off for everyone in this draft. Once you get past that the whole draft looks a little better than you would expect if you had not accounted for it.

fairly high ceiling, undrafted, and super senior don’t really go together.

Seems like system filler who might max out at A+/AA.

As do most prospects. In the mean time I will watch and enjoy, hope you will too.

Technically, I think 8th rounder Guilfoil has played in the FCL, so one drafted pitcher has debuted, granted he was a pure reliever, and so probably doesn't carry workload concerns.

Nice overview of the initial returns from the draft class. I don't think pro debut numbers mean too much. The disparity between Melton's FCL and Fayetteville performances show how these small sample sizes aren't great indicators of current ability, and it's impossible to know if the player is working through any changes recommended upon entering the system. Someone like McGowan went from playing in the middle of nowhere Kansas to competing with guys like Gilbert, who spent a couple years in the SEC. The Astros have recently had some success with making some of these late round picks more notable as pros than amateurs (Chas, Meyers, Jones, Hensley, etc.)

Not going to lie, I thought the two terms were interchangeable.

If that were a real betting line I would bet heavy on the over. At least 5 players from this draft class will reach the majors. Now, if you are talking about guys who have sustained careers, then yes the number will be lower but if you’re talking about number of guys who will appear in an MLB game then the number should be a lot higher.

Obviously Gilbert getting hurt sucks, but I am pretty happy with the early returns of this draft class. Of course, stats carry virtually zero predictive value at less than 50 pa for hitters and 20 ip for pitchers, and even then most stats dont matter until much bigger samples. But velocities carry at least some meaning at any sample.

Makes me think about Jason Chowning. He flat out dominated in A ball. Struggled in his brief time in A+, went on the IL and that was the end of his career.

    Or Kirk Saarloos.
Thought that guy was going to dominate.
I guess a Saarloos type career wouldn't be the worst thing for an UDFA.

Hunter Brown was scheduled to start but Sugar Land has listed Bielak as the starter now. Getting called up?? Probably not but that Schwab guy made a good point, he could be pitching in relief like last time. Is this a trial run to see how he does as a relief pitcher? Because if he were to get called up, it would be as if reliever and not a starter.

It's the last day of complex league play.

Kenni Gomez went 2-3 with an RBI triple and an RBI single in the DSL Blue team's 6-3 win. Gomez finishes his first season with a .294/.402/.500 line with 4 home runs and 24 RBI.

Wilmy Sanchez got the save and he finishes off a solid pro debut with a 3-0 record, 3 saves, and a 2.12 ERA in 12 appearances (4 starts). Sanchez struck out 49 in 34 innings and opponents hit .213 against him.

Yanquiel Sanchez threw four scoreless in the Orange team's 4-0 win. Sanchez, a 21-year-old Cuban, went 1-1 with a 2.73 ERA in 10 appearances (7 starts) in his first pro season.

Sorry I just did. Apparently 15 minutes after the guy tweeted that Brown wasn't listed as starter, it was changed back to Brown.

Tyler Whitaker staying hot this month, hitting his 10th HR of the season tonight. Very promising end to the year for him; he’s recouped a lot of his stock the last 4 weeks.
