Game 7 of the World Series, I want Urquidy starting with Lance mopping up the last 3 innings.

I found 3 more that managed 20+ years without a WS win...

    Buck Showalter
    Gene Mauch
    Harry Wright

We need a Mets Astros WS.

What happened to the BP this week, my God. Presley was the last bastion of stability, and then he almost blew a 3 run lead. We need the 2 days off this week; hopefully, it's just monotony/fatigue, etc.

Off the top of my head, I would have bet he won one.

Yeah I knew he never won one but I wasn’t sure if he put in 20 seasons.

Relievers threw 16 ⅓ innings during these seven games against the White Sox and Braves. They posted a 7.16 ERA. Houston’s bullpen has a 4.33 ERA in 52 August innings and a 4.16 mark since the All-Star break. Entering Sunday’s slate of games, only nine teams had a higher bullpen ERA in the second half.

A horde of underlying metrics are better evaluators. For example, Astros relievers entered Sunday generating less contact than any bullpen in baseball since the All-Star break. Only two bullpens had a higher swinging strike rate. Only three had a higher strikeout rate.

Since the All-Star break, Astros relievers have a 3.31 FIP — almost a full run lower than its 4.33 ERA. By definition, fielding independent pitching only measures what a pitcher can control and, generally, is a more accurate indicator of a pitching staff’s effectiveness.

Astros relievers also entered Sunday’s game allowing a .344 batting average on balls in play since the All-Star break. Only the Boston Red Sox have a higher mark. The league average is .290.

Blaming all of the shortcomings on bad luck is foolish — and certainly won’t appease fans if these same relievers collapse in October. Houston is walking too many hitters since the All-Star break and may have three relievers running on fumes. Entering Sunday, 31 relievers had made at least 50 appearances.

Astros relievers have walked 35 batters in 84 ⅓ innings since the All-Star break. Only six bullpens have a higher walk rate. Curtailing the free passes is a must — especially if the bad luck continues. A leadoff walk preceded both of those aforementioned grounders during Stanek’s 11th inning on Saturday.

Prior to Sunday’s game, though, Houston’s relievers were still generating a 14 percent swinging strike rate in the second half, according to FanGraphs. Only the Braves and White Sox have bullpens with higher ones.

    I heard 32 games in 32 days.

The other understated thing is the fact we have a 6 man rotation — it means one less bullpen arm than usual. Our starters have been great, but we don’t have the usual extra mop up / human victory cigar arm.

This I very much agree with.

Dog days of summer have nothing on the last 2 months.
