Its possible under the bylaws… just highly unlikely.

““The Uniform Player Code in baseball says that a team can terminate a contract if a player shall ‘fail, refuse, or neglect to conform his personal conduct to the standards of good citizenship … it also allows a team to terminate a deal if a player shall ‘fail, refuse, or neglect to render his services … in any material manner that may breach this contract””

But they weren’t able to do it with the DV guys… so doubtful they can do it with the PED’ers (minus them not having to pay during the suspension).

Correa and a ToR SP rounds out Baltimore’s 2023 and future roster pretty nicely:

    C Rutschman
    1B Mountcastle
    2B Westburg
    SS Correa
    3B Henderson
    RF Hays
    CF Mullins
    LF Santander/Cowser
    DH Vavra
Bench: Mayo, Prieto, Urias, TBD catcher
SP Rodon, Rodriguez, Kremer, Wells, Means
RP Bautista, Perez, Tate, Akin, Hall, Krehbiel, Baker, Vespi

Right, not possible. For 1 reason, from fangraphs

Right now, the go-to statement for players who get busted using a banned substance is that they were taking legal supplements and they have no idea how that illicit compound got mixed in there. It’s easy enough to just wave those comments off now, because there’s no real way to prove whether they’re telling the truth, and it doesn’t really matter either way; players are held responsible for what goes into their body, with ignorance not being an acceptable excuse. But if you allow teams to void the contracts of players who fail their tests, you’re creating a system where teams have a significant financial incentive to get underperforming expensive players to fail their tests.

For instance, if a team could void a long-term deal after a failed test, and then a guy like Prince Fielder or Albert Pujols magically ended up with a positive test result, then it suddenly matters a lot whether or not they took something intentionally, because we’re talking hundreds of millions of dollars at stake. You’d hope that teams wouldn’t be lacing their cortisone shots with some drug that would show up in the PED test, but with that kind of money at stake, the distrust created between players and teams would be enormous as soon as one big long contract was voided after a failed test, where the player claimed he must have been given a tainted shot by the team doctor.

But Tatis already said it wasn’t a “mistake” after he got called out for his bullshit ringworm excuse.

I agree it would open a huge Pandora’s box… but the fangraphs article is more speculation of what could happen vs. what’s actually in the CBA.

I would imagine it would be far more enforceable if players were busted repeatedly for illicit drug use… and despite team efforts to get them clean, they kept ****ing up…

Correa is not opting out. NO ONE is paying him more than he is making now.

We will see. I don't agree.

I see him opting out and getting at least $250M

    Who’s going to pay him?

I could see him as a Giant if the Yankees resign Judge.

There’s tons of teams that need his services (Miami, Cleveland, and his current Twins come to mind), hopefully he gets a contract comparable to Lindor and Seager, two dudes he’s better than.

    Correa
    336 AB
    14 HR
    39 RBI
    .268

    Pena
    350 AB
    15 HR
    41 RBI
    .254

How in the hell is anyone paying Correa a huge long term deal?

I know he doesn't want to, but he's gonna have to exercise that player option.

Baltimore. They are ready to spend, he’d fit well there and he has the fast connection.

Comparing his numbers to Pena's is apples to oranges.

It's like saying who is going to pay Bryan Reynolds because Julio Rodriguez is so good.

Bottom line is that there are teams who will need a shortstop and expect to spend.

Baltimore is on record as expecting to significantly increase payroll next year.

Philadelphia needs a shortstop, is a big market and( if they don't have a deep playoff run this year) will be desperate for whatever piece gets them over the top. Their front office has to be under pressure.

Just off the top of my head.

    These guys ALWAYS get paid.

Who cares if Correa is staying in Minny or not and why does someone want him to go to Baltimore?

Correa is not worth $200 mil over 10 years, he was lucky to get the 3 year deal he did and needs to exercise that. Nobody is offering him $30+ mil a season next year to take him away from his deal right now.

The Astros made Correa look better because he didn't have to shoulder the load and many thought he could be a 30/100 guy if he was da dude. His injuries show otherwise. Glad he's gone and looking forward to Pena kicking his ass every year in stats and even WAR (for those who follow that)

What matters most is .... how Mrs Correa feels about where they live?

What is interesting is once again, the SS market will be crowded. Correa, Swanson, Turner & Bogaerts are expected to be on the market. Correa was the only one not on the all-star team this year, but should command the biggest contract.

That is interesting but also consider that

    1) the all star game is a popularity contest not an accurate Guage of the best players.

    2) since every team must he represented, a completely undeserving player can be an "all star" at the expense of a better player.

    3) the all star game is in the middle of the season. It is always possible that a player could have a great second half, end up as a top player even if they weren't when all stars were selected. Similarly all stars can take a nose dive and finish the season with forgettable results.

Funny how things work out. He's not definitely the best player of the bunch. Turner has a higher peak season WAR and more WAR during club control, but Correa is considered a middle-of-the-order guy (and also a platinum glove winner). Correa gets paid the most because he's the youngest and more a tradition 3/4/5 hitter.

Interesting difference between Baseball Reference and Fangraphs, as BR greatly prefers Correa. Crazy coincidence that a Dodgers SS may be Correa's biggest competition in the FA market for the 2nd straight offseason.

On one hand, I am thinking there is no way Daniella wants to dodge bullets outside of Baltimore's stadium, but then again she allowed Carlos to choose Minneapolis.
