How can you guys say stuff like this? KPJ is a star on both sides of the ball? We are only bad because the team is young and not because of the point guard play? His job is to facilitate scoring but not be a traditional PG? I dont understand why you guys are tripling down on these obviously hyperbolic ideas. KPJ reminds me a lot of a young quarterback who can run for 75 yards/game, so everyone argues that traditional QB play is dead. Who knew everything was that simple!
This is why he's much better suited as a 6th or 7th man. He could do well in that role, make good money, and have an impact. But I don't foresee him accepting that role for us. He'll have to fail for a few years before he comes around to it - if he ever does. That's what I think is the most likely scenario. Obviously, I'd prefer it if he vastly improved his game and stayed here, but I think that's less likely.
So did the OKC Thunder have back to back 20 win seasons because KD was awful? Like I said before, this ridiculous nonsense just falls apart when faced with scrutiny. The small but loud anti KPJ minority are the ones desperately trying to sell hyperbole.... which is why they always run when faced with the reality that doesn't match their rhetoric.
KPJ can pass Napalm, it is just not a traditional PG role, he is a scoring PG, much like Harden was/is, or many other modern guards, Curry etc....traditional pass first pGs are pretty dead around the league. KPJ is the best player on the Rockets the most advanced on both sides (of our young guys - I am excluding EGo and probably shouldn't). And yes we are bad because the team is young - youth comes with stupid play, they don't know how to win they celebrate stupid **** like it matters when all that matters is winning. Youth sucks until it no longer does....that is where KPJ is this year. DD
I have never been ant Jabari or upset we picked him but for some reason we can't ever say anything negative about players on our team. Unless its KPJ. LOL. You think you ran me off? Bless your heart.
Who is a traditional pg in today's NBA? Can you name 5? 3? I don't understand why KPJ is knocked for not being a traditional pg when the NBA is trending away from that.
KPJ in theory has higher ceiling than anyone, because he "CAN" do everything. but in practice he actually doesn't do anything well except for spot up shooting, and at time 1v1 on defense. I don't think KPJ's issue is putting it together, because every single skill is still not very polished. He's not yet an accurate passer, vision and timing is limited, not a great finisher at the rim, bad free throw shooter, average mid range shooter, average first step. His strengths right now are the following 1. Spot up 3 point shooting 2. above average ball handling, although still can be turnover prone 3. plays strong 1v1 defense 4. strong NBA body, can draw fouls and not get bullied around by bigger players. All in all he's a bit of a jack of all trades at the moment. But jack of all trades either turn into a star, or become nothing depending on how you develop. I hope he develops into a star, but the clock is certainly ticking.
More importantly, a "traditional PG" would be a terrible fit with Green.... so why would people want that? A combo guard on the other hand, that's a perfect fit if Green ever develops his game.
By advanced metrics, Wood was the best player on the team last year. Being the best player on the worst team in the league isn't exactly high praise. I'm looking for consistency with KPJ, because combo guards having one great season isn't very noteworthy. Right now there's just nothing but hopes and wishes that KPJ is part of the Rocket's core. This season will determine that as for all we know KPJ is part of a mid season trade package.
What I don't get is this. If his biggest strength is spot up 3, why is his job passing the ball? He should be the receiving end of a spot up shot, not the guy who is making the pass.
because "potential" and optimism. We didn't really put this much effort into babying KPJ to turn him into a spot up shooter. And let's be fair, he has shown flashes of potential that he can be an all around great player. But when will flashes turn into something more consistent and tangible
It's not out of the question that all of our young guys can hit their projected marks for next season. Freebies, temper and setting up the half court are the couple of things I want him to improve on. You saw him grow towards the end of the season when he wanted Green to get his 40pts more than Green. Hope it continues.
Mostly because no one else is anywhere near as good running the offense as he is. The hope is that eventually Green develops into a guy who can run the offense with KPJ so that they can take turns tearing up defenses. Till then, KPJ is the only guy that can. There's Sengun, who should help get KPJ some more shot opportunities, but his essentially 1 to 1 assist to TO ratio last season suggests that he's not exactly ready to carry too much of that burden. As the young players develop, hopefully they will be able to take some of that burden from KPJ, but last year he had basically no help.
Do tell what late 1st round pick the Lakers r gonna pull outta there a$$ to trade for kpj. I figured with your response u finally thought of something with your sht speculations
Remember Linsanity? Imagine what D'Antoni could do with a more talented KPJ. Imagine what DA could do with Sengun. Coaching matters.
He is at the last year of his rookie contract. Players in their fourth season shouldn't be talking about potential anymore. He should be focused on playing a role that can maximize his strengths--and to show what kind of contract he is worth.
I remember Lin having a good stretch of games and then never being able to replicate it, or even approximate it. That's on Lin and no one else. I don't know what that has to do with KPJ being ineffecient on offense for his entire career.
