Did Candente's nachos right after lockdown. BBQ sauce was way too sweet. I only ate a third and threw the rest away.

Didn't order BBQ sauce nachos when I was there. I cant recommend that. Would never think to order that. Also, if you're throwing away nachos I assume you got them to-go? Cant recommend that either. Nachos should be fresh. But I cant blame anyone for ordering to-go these days. Just not... OPTIMAL for a nacho.

A handful of dishes I’ll get by myself, so I don’t have to converse while eating them :)
    • Enchiladas Mexicanas at El Paraiso (2 chicken, 1 cheese) not to mention their chips and salsa
    • Dan Dan Noodle at Duck n Boa — talk about comfort food
    • Onion Rings at Eugene’s coupled with their Poblano Soup
    • Cheeseburger in Paradise at Cafe Brasil, sauce on the side
    • Antonio’s Special at Antonio’s Flying Pizza

See above. Literally threw them in the trash. Were it not for the restaurants after lockdown I would've sent them back. But it wasn't the time then, or even now.

Any Houston Restaurant thread that doesn't mention Barbecue Inn is incomplete. Family owned and operated for 4 generations since 1946.

Best Fried Shrimp, awesome CFS and Fried Chicken cooked to order (so don't come in a hurry)

It sounds gross to me. A little too much TEX in my Mex.

BUT - I do see a lot of emerging plays on Texas BBQ. Khoi BBQ. Loro. Birria brisket uprising.

And I do like when the cultures start to fuse. That's what Texas food is supposed to be about to me. Not that bland **** they be serving in Dallas.

Hope you enjoy. One of my favorite places and one of my required stops every time I get back to HTown.

You mean the one in a hotel in Westchase district? That place is awful. I hope you mean another one.

That looks great, though I'd personally want to substitute the meat for something vegetarian. Would sliced portabellos work here?

Pickled onions on nachos is a good idea. The main thing this is missing is something spicy. I like sliced jalepenos or serranos, fresh or lightly pickled.

It does "look" great. The bbq sause is just way too sweet for my palate.

Oh I missed the BBQ sauce element. I wouldn't like that either.
