There is nothing wrong with Yuli only playing a couple times a week. Players go down hill. It just happens. When he does play there is no way he should be hitting in the two hole. I think he should be hitting ninth. I don’t have the time or the internet knowledge to document it, but I doubt there is a two-hole hitter in the entire league worse than Yuli.
These are some of the ones you asked for. You can believe them or not. There are opinions baked into any stat regarding how accurately or completely it reflects a player's effectiveness. But the same is true with simple observation which is how Jeter won Gold Gloves as a BAD fielder. I have my own system when following the game. PA vs AB and Runners Advanced vs H. I really don't care how a runner is advanced because I'm not concerned about the pitcher stats. If there's a fielder's choice, then it only scores if the lead runner advances, but not if he is simply replaced. BB, HBP, ROE, SB and SF all advance a runner. I'm mixed on whether to subtract on a DP.
I think playing at Oakland is depressing for the Astros Players and Stephen Curry is making the Astros Players behave like little kid fans. Photo Session and getting Autographs. I was really disturbed by the Astros team behavior with Stephen Curry.
WRC+ Altuve - 151 Bregman- 132 Yordan- 189 Mancini - 130 Tucker - 130 Pena -103 Diaz -112 McCormick- 113 Vazquez- 104 Can we see it one time please? 129.3 WRC+ average LAD/NYY- Tied for lead 121 WRC+ Lets just unleash the best lineup in baseball already.
Day game after a night game. Old Farts rest? [Yuli and Maldy.] But I bet (CR)Musty plays Dubon and Meyers instead of Mancini and Vasquez. ~No Catcher? No Problem. We need to find an emergency third catcher.~
Updated Lefty Optimal Line-up. Yes. That's Maldy at DH though you could switch him and Vasquez. L/R/S POS PLAYER OBP SLG OPS+ 1. R CF McCORMICK, Chas 400 605 1005 2. All 4 games against the White Sox are vs Righties. Perhaps we SHOULD start Maldy today and give Vasquez a start vs CWS.
I wasn't thinking that at all. Just thinking of using MALDY today because of his .500 SLG vs lefties, even though it is a day game following a night game. WHEN Maldy rests, it's better to rest vs righties.
That wasn't evident in the way you worded your post. Perhaps we SHOULD start Maldy today and give Vasquez a start vs CWS.
Right, and that’s cool and all when talking about a SS or 3B, but I can’t help but think these defensive metrics don’t evaluate a player properly at some positions. 1B being one of them. How many times has Yuli prevented an error with ridiculous scoops on ducks that Peña or Altuve short hop by 20 feet. I feel like the defensive metrics don’t paint the whole picture.
Catcher defense is a completely different case. The Astros would say Maldy’s “defensive” value is much more about how he calls games and manages the pitcher. I am sure they have stats on that, but they would not be the ones cited above.
And it would be hard to argue with that. It also doesn't hurt that Maldy is hitting .264 .320 .550 .870 with 7 homers and 21 rbi since July 1st. Of course, people on here still act like he's been the worst hitter on the team bc his overall stats look ugly.
