Not sure how to interpret your sarcasm. It seems somewhat accusatory.

Obviously, the chances are very high that this was a lunatic Muslim extremist, but there's always the possibility it was some other lunatic. Whether he acted alone or this was a planned terror attack is a pretty important unknown at this point.

New York police just named the suspect in the attack on Salman Rushdie as Hadi Matar, a 24-year-old from New Jersey. He had access for the event where the author was speaking, and officials believe he was acting alone.

There were no previous threats before the event, authorities said, there is not yet any indication of the motive of Rushdie’s attacker.

Authorities are currently working to determine charges against Matar, police said in a press conference on Friday afternoon.

Extremism by its nature leads to violence. We see it from religious fundamentalists of various religions - Muslims of course but also Hindus and Christians, and even Buddhists. We see extremism from a lot of the White Nationalists groups which invoke Christianity, and many of the Trumpers who buy into various conspiracy theories and are calling for violences against Dems.

 

This is correct. It is also correct to point out that some religions -- for various reasons cultural, historical, or ideological -- have a bigger problem with religious violence than others.

Salman Rushdie: Author on ventilator and unable to speak, agent says (yahoo.com)

Salman Rushdie's agent has said "the news is not good" after the author was stabbed at an event in New York state.

He was attacked on stage, and is now on a ventilator and unable to speak, Andrew Wylie said in a statement, adding that the author will lose one eye.

Mr Rushdie has suffered years of Islamist death threats after writing The Satanic Verses, published in 1988.

Police detained a suspect named as Hadi Matar, 24, from Fairview, New Jersey.

New York State Police the suspect ran onto the stage and attacked Mr Rushdie and an interviewer at an event at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York state.

"Salman will likely lose one eye; the nerves in his arm were severed; and his liver was stabbed and damaged," his agent, Andrew Wylie said.

I get you want to say Muslims are the only people who kill for god or race but you know that's not true.

I’m more ambivalent on religion than I used to be. Not religious myself, but I see how it enriches the lives of some people, and I think it can help make some people better versions of themselves.

 

They don't need religion for that...it is dangerous to society.

I hope the guy that did this gets the death penalty.
