Beto could be great on a national level.

I'll settle for Beto beating that sorry a*s piece of excrement, Greg Abbott, by one vote or one thousand. It takes everyone sick to death of the creature to get off their butts and vote. Contribute. Help with a phone bank. Abbott has been a horrific governor. He can be beaten. Talk is cheap. Do something. Help make it happen.

I figured abbot would have a tough time winning governor again after the power grid failures, how he handle the recent shooting, and his response to covid.

I wouldn't b surprised if he won again, seeing how a decent amount of Texans is backward in thinking. Ted Cruz won and he's seems unpopular as fk

Beto still has a very way ahead of him. The latest polling I saw from late July was Abbott leading 48%-43%. Texas politics are still dominated by the GOP and they have a big structural advantage especially in a midterm election.

I hope I'm wrong but if I placed money on this race I would bet Beto loses narrowly.

Beto will lose by double digits.

His purpose is to fundraise and boost margins in tight local races for Ds.

I'm not sure what path he follows after this.

Option 1) keep doing what he's doing in Texas and hope to eventually break through against Cruz or for an open seat

Option 2) join the national Democratic apparatus in some fashion and work on rehabbing his image and/or riding out his days as an interchangeable deck chair on the ship in various roles

I'm not in Texas so am only observing from a far but do you really think he is that behind? From what I'm seeing is that he does have momentum and several things are breaking his way. I just don't think enough will break for him to win.

Beto shot his shot in 2018. Now there are tremendous headwinds and his shine has worn off. He's going to get pwn3d, as the kids say. That being said, he will do exactly as I said (fundraise and bolster downballot candidates) and do that effectively, so, mission accomplished.

    I saw a study of 100+ Obama-Trump-Biden voters.

Those voters were asked a series of questions to determine their attitudes toward each party.

For Democrats they chose "preachy". For Republicans they chose "crazy".

When asked whether they would vote for "preachy" or "crazy", they chose "crazy" 90% of the time.

This is where Democrats can make hay. Drop the pretense. Call a spade a spade. Bodyslam a mother ****er in the mud and don't apologize for it.

    Desperately

The democrats play far, far too nice and it's infuriating. The republicans over the last 6 years have repeatedly shown they have abandoned all decorum to push their agenda by any means necessary, and it's worked.

I think he's actually a pretty good politician, but he keeps taking very long odds. And he looks like a loser when he then falls short. Nothing succeeds like success, and if he ever does manage to upset a Texas statewide race, I think he'll see a dramatic shift in public perception of him.

The American voter is pretty damn forgiving and has a short memory. His 2020 faceplant will not hold him back if he chooses to go for the big seat again.

I think Beto has a much better shot of being a national figure than he does winning statewide in Texas. Although he should definitely take another swing at Cruz in 2024.

    Boy is this wrong......

His momentum is staggering he is going into red areas and packing the house, he is running the ground campaign and gaining momentum.

This is far from over.....we need Beto in politics he is a great candidate.

A modern day Ralph Yarborough: keep on running and running until he gets to a point where he might win.

I've had my share of problems with Beto since 2018, but I think he is onto something with going all over the state and visiting places that Democrats never touch. He's showing voters he wants to represent them and that there are different ways of approaching problems than one-party rule does.

This is the same playbook he ran in 2018 (not a criticism).

Only this time he's doing it during the least Democratic friendly midterm election cycle since 2010.

I think he might eventually get over the hump, but it won't be in 2022.

It’s going to difficult for Beto to compete with Abbotts let children be murdered and freeze citizens to death platform.

It’s interesting because reading Republican comments including here they’re always saying it’s the Democrats and liberals who are mean and harsh.

They are. That's part and parcel of the preachy thing. Democrats talk down their nose to people, Republicans talk out of their butt to people.

Most folks will choose dealing with a crazy idiot over a holier-than-thou b*stard any day of the week.

Granted, there are cynical, bad faith conservative posters here whom deserve the derision and ridicule they get; but I've seen far too many liberals here enter good faith discussions with someone who is either mistaken or ignorant (or neither) and just be complete assholes to them when it was totally uncalled for basically torpedoing any chance of persuasion or concession.

Beto is not talking down his nose to people - he is how the Dem party should all be talking, with the people.

I'm genuinely curious who you think are the good faith republican/conservative posters in here? I have to go back to weslinder (who stopped posting a long time ago), imadrummer, and MadMax (who both came over to the dark side). I definitely had exchanges with weslinder and Max where we disagreed, but I was always respectful because they came across as sincere, thoughtful and informed. It's my memory that others treated them in the same way.

Maybe I have blinders on and I'm missing some others?
