It’s loyalty to a tribal identity. It’s why many who claim they don’t like Trump still defend him because it’s the other side is attacking him and you can’t show weakness or common cause with the other side. Trump knows this. Notice how often he tells his supporter that attacks on him are really a attacks on them. Notice how that message is repeated among his supporters, “if they can do this to me they can do it to anyone”. Forget that most people won’t have even access to classified intelligence or run a complex tax evasion scheme that would get the notice or Federal authorities As long as your internalize the message then you’re willing to fight for him.
My parents care about trump more than oxygen. If he gets arrested I’m afraid that they might stop eating or something strange. It’s quite pathetic.
Everyone with a brain knows he is slimy and has broken the law. Not all of his supporters are stupid, they just don’t care if he broke the law because they like him. Others like @crnl don’t care because he over turned abortion and nothing else matters. He is a master at getting his supporters what they think they want.
I think it's also that they've made a big stink supporting Trump and trashing those that accused Trump. They would have to admit they're wrong and have been wrong the whole time. That's not an easy ask.
