Well... there's this thing called "inflation". But if you look throughout this thread, I've been saying brisket prices have been nuts for the past couple of years, at least. I think I used to pay like $14-$16/lbs for cooked brisket at a bbq joint just a few years ago. Probably a lot cheaper just a few years before that. See the price increases I've been griping about below. If you eat a lot of bbq, it may be better to just buy a grill at this point. lol. BTW, If I were to go to Hutchins BBQ, it now costs $31/lbs (for prime brisket). Which is why I don't go anymore. It's not worth it to me. October 4, 2021 : July 5, 2021 : February 8, 2021 :
I gotta ask: has anyone been to one of the HEB-owned "True Texas BBQ" spots next to their grocery stores? They're opening one attached to my HEB soon and I was just curious... https://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/h-e-b-runs-best-bbq-chain-texas/
Suck it, Austin! https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/texas-barbecue-scene-big-city/index.html "You might be inspired at this point to plan a barbecue-centric trip to Texas. But it is a BIG state any way you slice it. If you don't have the time and inclination to cover so much territory, what's the single best area to visit? Turn to the state's biggest city. "I'd say the greatest concentration of great barbecue is the Houston area," Vaughn said. "I don't know of an area in Texas that has more great barbecue than that." Some of Vaughn's suggestions for the greater Houston metro: Truth Barbecue, Pinkerton's Barbecue, Corkscrew Barbecue, Tejas Chocolate & Barbecue, Killan's Barbecue, Feges Barbecue. And he said Blood Bros. BBQ in Houston "really represents the modern barbecue movement."" I hit up Corkscrew every time we're back in Spring visiting family. Gonna have to break the cycle and give Tejas a try.
As a whole, I do think Houston has more top bbq restaurants and more choice in general. So this is correct. However, Franklin is still king in my book. But you can’t go to Franklin every week cause it’s so hard to wait. I also think Feges in Houston is underrated
No. Quite a bit of wrongness in that video. Question for @bobrek @rocketsjudoka and any other Minny bbsers: is "Minnesota BBQ" its own thing, or is it just people in Minnesota cooking everyone else's style of bbq? This article came up on my phone this morning, and it's kind of unclear, so now I'm curious. Regardless, is the bbq in Minnesota any good? https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/minnesota-barbecue-anyway-because-getting-150821840.html
There is nothing unique to Minnesota about BBQ. Probably the most well known place is Famous Dave's and their stuff is decent. They do have good corn bread. There are a couple of high end places that are really good. If you're ever in downtown Minneapolis check out The Butcher's Tale.
@Buck Turgidson I can't speak to MN BBQ food trucks. But, keep in mind that folks in MN, think it's humid at 70% and think their mosquito problem is the worst in America and they traded for Herschel Walker and elected Jesse Ventura.
They do a good job with walleye and 'comfort' food. They think LeAnn Chin is good Asian food (think of a more expensive Panda Express). One drop of Tabasco or a dollop of salsa makes any dish too spicy.
No its not its own thing and its terribly mediocre (borderline bad). The big thing in Minnesota is that the bbq sauce is almost universally bad. And a lot of places offer some really strange sides. Needless to say, my wife and I eat a lot of bbq when we visit Texas. You appreciate southern bbq a lot more once you leave the south.
One of my best friends from HS uses one of these smokers. He seriously makes BBQ on par with any great Texas place. Grabbed these from his FB page. Luckily he's going to do some for our FF draft this month.
Goldee's in Fort Worth is #1 from that article. I'll have to make my way over there and give it a try. Hopefully, there's none of those ridiculous lines that form early in the AM.
I'll try to check it out in the fall, but the top BBQ list is definitely POLITICALLY COMPROMISED Franklin BBQ is WAY better than lot of those on the list and it dropped to like number 7 I went to those 'better' places. I like Truth too, but I remember when it was super easy to get food there pre BBQ list.
Somebody told me they went about a month or two ago and they got there around 8-8:30am, they don't open until 11am (only Fri, Sat., and Sun.), and it took them about 2-3 hours of standing around, including early arrival, to get their food. BTW, they close around 3pm, too, or, I'm guessing when they run out of meat, so ... you've got a tight window. lol. According to Texas Monthly's list, I think 10 or 11 of the top-50 BBQ joints are in the DFW area, so you've got choices nowadays. About 10-15 years ago, you almost had to travel down to the Austin/Lockhart area to get something good.
