No, it's more just that Kyle has said very clearly that Jimmy won't be on the roster come game 1. So, "if he has to be," means they are requiring a depth chart for the dumb preseason game. Niners are hoping and praying that somebody, somewhere, will offer even one draft pick for him. But Kyle and Jimmy both claim they've remained on good terms, and they will cut him and let him go somewhere else if they can't get a trade. (I hear about this team all the time on the radio out here.)
