It’s almost like Dusty really doesn’t like Chas and doesn’t want him to be successful Obviously I’m not in the clubhouse and don’t know their relationship, but how else can this be explained?
Because Dusty is setting the lineup. Same reason Pena who has an 860 ops batting second is in the 7th spot and Mancini is sitting on the bench so Yuli can hit a single and raise his batting average. Oh, I know we are eleven and a half up so what difference does it make? I’m sure wrecking Pena’s confidence and playing Myers hurt is worth it.
Besides for Dusty not liking Chas or viewing Chas as the reason Click traded away Straw, I give the following excuses that may or may not be true: 1) Club/Dusty just thinks Chas has been playing way above his head in limited time the past 2 seasons and will regress way more than normal. 2) Club/Dusty views Meyers as the better CF long term and will do everything in its power to get Meyers ready for the postseason. 3) Club/Dusty prefers Diaz in LF 4) Club/Dusty thinks Brantley will be back so no reason to get Chas, the 4th OF more PAs. 5) Dusty just doesn't value offense and defense appropriately 6) Club/Dusty thinks Chas's splits against LHPs aren't real 7) Club/Dusty thinks Chas has been lucky defensively 8) Dusty thinks Mars is in retrograde
9) Dusty wants to get Chas back to hitting RHPs like last year 10) Dusty doesn't believe in the RHP splits 11) Dusty is trying to make Chas a better overall player by helping through adversity. Honestly, I think Chas broke some unwritten rule in Dusty's mind early on that makes Dusty think he's not as good as he is and it will take mountains of data to prove otherwise.
I defend Dusty a lot on here, but man Chas and Mancini should be starting today. If Diaz and Jake rake today I'll eat my words, but damn man c'mon.
I’m not sure Meyers is going to be an MLB caliber player this year. Will it cost us home field advantage to find out? Probably not but Chas should be getting close to full time reps at this point.
I can overlook Myers in CF. It's clear the Astros want to get him going and Urquidy is a flyball pitcher, so OK start Myers, whatever. Diaz (who has always hit RHP better) starting over Chaz (and Mancini), it's f**king stupid. And if Diaz has a good game tonight, great, a statistically bad decision is still a bad decision and that will bear out over time. There's absolutely zero defensible reason for Chaz to not start over one of these 2. Hell, I'm not even sure Tucker is a better option against LHP. Yuli starting over Mancini is stupid AF also. I don't think Yuli should rot on the bench, but he's still ahead of Mancini on the depth chart, and that is stupid. Not as stupid as the Chaz issue, but stupid.
I want Mancini in the lineup every game, but can Dusty at least play him in every home game? Short porch in left so he doesn't have to cover as much ground in left field, first base, or DH. And we all know what his home run numbers could be playing in Minute Maid Park. It's not hard to slot him in one of those spots...
I have grown to hate Jake Meyers. You tellin’ me his defense is so great he can’t be benched? That he deserves (and actually gets) every day ABs? Takes two to tango blahblahblah, needed a CF more than a backup C who will play two times a week. (Nothing against and no offense to Vazquez.) “[This CF/that CF] aren’t a significant upgrade.” Are we…are we watching the same guy?
