I would guess the DOJ learned that there are highly classified documents in those boxes. Perhaps someone at Mar a lago or close to trumps orbit. I’m sure there are plenty of republicans who wouldn’t mind Trump being convicted…I’m looking at you DeSantis, McConnell, McCarthy. A conviction gets Trump out of the way, and riles up the voting base. Perfect result for the GOP 2024 field.

Trump can still avoid charges if he can prove intent of not stealing them on purpose. Law is lax and forgiving if you "accidentally steal" boxes and cases of classified info but didn't mean it.
