They were just the “Brooklyn Baseball Club” until WWII. They were called “Da Bums” because their fans were considered poor and trashy… they had a couple other nicknames before the team decided to just go with Dodgers. Their mascot was a clown until the 60’s.

They aren’t as good as the Dodgers and trading your entire farm system for two guys that are mediocre defensively does nothing to change that. As for Soto, he isn’t prime Mike Trout and even then one player doesn’t make a big enough difference. The Padres are better for now but paid a huge cost long term.
Pelicans is still stupid, the New Orleans Quintet works much better than a name as unwieldy as “Pelicans”. Washington Wizards at least has alliteration. The Texan name wouldn’t be so awful if they weren’t the laughing stock of the league forthright majority of their existence.
