Since this carried interest thing is supposedly so reviled, maybe someone should write a clean bill that does nothing but close this tax loophole. You won't sneak it past hedge fund managers by hiding it in some big omnibus thing. You might lose Sinema with a small discrete bill, but would gain some republicans. (I know that is naive. Democrats aren't interested in increasing revenues if they don't have a pet project to spend that money on. And of course many politicians would lose campaign donations.)

Of course not. Democrats already know it is a smashing success, and Republicans can see it's the worst decision our government has ever made.

It hinges on whether the stock market likes it when it passes, thus giving it the "economic credibility" pols need to sell it during midterms...

Yeah, I don't even mind Manchin. He is what he is, a moderate Democrat in a state that has no business sending Democrats to the senate. He's an extra senator the Democrats should not have realistically...

But Sinema advertised herself as something else and is the exact opposite of what she was voted in for. It's kind of crazy to see and I hope one day we hear about stories of her corruption and what it takes to buy a senator or if this was always her long term goal to get elected and sell out to the highest bidder.

Yes there should be a clean bill in this. Manchin expressed some passion on this so maybe he with some Republican co sponsors should introduce it.

I’m disappointed in Sinema but I don’t think she is all bad and just a shill for corporate interest. She did get more drought relief added to the bill which greatly benefits the people of AZ and in the gun control and bipartisan infrastructure bill she was a big part of those. From the Democratic side she’s voted far more often with the Democrats including for both impeachments of Trump.

The problem with Sinema is she doesn’t seem to take her job seriously at times, doesn’t really communicate with the press, her colleagues or her constituents. Every Senator wants attention but it seems like she wants attention for things like what she wears and doing triathalons rather than her job.

She really seems like an Instagram politician.

a real-life eg of "carried interest loophole at work

An unusual deal gave Insiders of the Carlyle Group, a highly prosperous private equity firm, Cash Payouts, in the $Billions, tax free.

The Carlyle Group was formed in 1987; city of Pittsburgh Comprehensive Municipal Pension Trust Fund (for police and city employees) was one of the original funders. it has filed a lawsuit against Carlyle alleging that
the tax windfall arrangement in 2020, made possible by the "carried interest" provisions, hurts the value of its $340 million investment in the firm.
