Team records vs RHP or LHP means less than ever before with so many starters pitching so few innings compared to the past
I don't deny that, and I don't deny that Baker makes mistakes. I think I mentioned in my post that I am not a fan of his. So what's the right move today? Start Maldonado or Vasquez?
Seriously. For better or worse I always assumed Maldy would still start more often than Vasquez, most of us assumed it. Whether we agree or not they really, really love Maldy calling games. But with Brantley out there's absolutely no reason Mancini shouldn't start almost every game, and so far he's 1 out of 4.
Problem is Vasquez and Mancini are everyday players or were. Dusty apparently doesn’t see them that way now. Whole thing seems a little odd but winning trumps everything. Losses won’t help the situation. And yes there is something to play for right now. The situation in CF is puzzling as well.
I thought it was crazy hearing talk of Urquidy being traded. Thank God he wasn’t. He’s not an ace like JV but he’s good.
I really just want to see how Vazquez does catching for our other starters. He did well with Urquidy, so I would like to get our other starters expose to his pitch calls and see how they perform. Most likely Maldy will catch for Framber today, but I would really like to see Vazquez catch for Garcia and Javier. Mancini should start today at 1B, but who knows, he might DH and Alvarez takes rest day.
This. I'm fine for the most part how Dusty has managed pitching in the postseason. I'm fine with him resting players. I'm fine that he appears to have a great clubhouse. What should be the easy part of managing, he just messes up because his views, while they have changed some, still don't match modern game management regarding hitters.
#1. You don't know that. #2. For the LACK of WS Championships, Dusty still is #9 on the all-time wins list. #3. People complained before the Astros that Dusty overtaxed his pitchers/players. Now that he is watching the innings of his pitchers and giving guys as much rest as he can, people b**** about him not using people enough.
Dusty doesn't suck as a manger but he's done plenty of things that make you scratch your head. It's fair to be critical. Being critical of a manager doesn't mean you hate the guy or want him fired.
They b****ed about last night's line-up and the team goes out and wins 6-0. 2 of the players they wanted to sit drove in all the runs...LOL.
I agree that Mancini should be playing ALMOST every game. We need to give it a week to see if that is going to be the case. It is completely reasonable to not play Mancini in left field in Cleveland. I think it is time that he gets the starts at 1b when outfield is out of the question. Everybody is acting like Gurriel is batting great, but he is just doing better. Virtually no power or RBI's to speak of. Batting him in front of Alvarez has allowed him to get more hits, but it does the same thing for Pena. So batting him second and sitting Mancini, actually hurts two spots in our lineup.
RHP going today, so I would not start Chas even after the "big day", unless Tucker can't go...one of the hits was a routine ground ball, which is great, but not predictive of future success. The HR was vs a LHP reliever and he rips LHP even though he rarely gets to play against them Maldanado or Vazquez? Vasquez and it isn't close Altuve Pena Yordan Tucker / Bregman here if no Tucker today Bregman Mancini Vasquez Diaz Dubon If no Tucker today then would go with Chas Without a doubt Meyers will play today though, and hard to say if it will be Yuli or Mancini Maldanado/Vasquez
Chas OPS against RHPs 0.629 (he's closer to average for his career) Meyers 0.582 Dubon 0.573 Until Meyers gets well, Chas should be starting nearly every day as he just the best hitter regardless of pitcher at CF and he's pretty good there defensively.
According to an article in the Chronicle concerning Meyers struggles, he is scheduled to start tonight and tomorrow.
