This is the big internal debate I have with SKs (or any truly ****ed up people)- are they born that way or made? Nature vs Nurture. A combination, surely, but what's the formula? Are they diagnosed with depression and the lack of love they got from their mother was enough to trigger them? In other cases, a purely 'normal' kid having such a ****ed up childhood that they break.

Another question that I think big data can help us answer.

I think it's nature, yes you can nuture a kid to be antisocial but you have to be hardwired to do the **** Alcala and other serial killers do.

I think the nurture part is what sets off most of these guys the environment they grew up in, but something was wrong from the beginning.

This was a particularly sick b*stard, he just does not have the body count of the more prolific ones.

At this point they have a pretty good idea.

The short answer is that not all serial killers are psychopaths, some are sociopaths.

Psychopaths are born defective and sociopaths are more likely made.

Serial killer is a very broad term, there are various different types of serial killers so there isn't a single cause.

For example, until a handful of years ago they claimed that physical and emotional abuse played a large part in almost all serial killers childhoods. However, that is being questioned now. In many cases it is the serial killers themselves that make the claims of abuse and serial killers as a general rule are liars and they exaggerate.

For example if you look at Ted Bundy, there are a lot of documentaries that will play up the fact that he grew up without a father and that it was shameful and that his grandfather was a loud and at times physically scary and racist. However, in that time frame that same childhood was shared by millions of Americans that did not become serial killers.......... and Bundy having a fascination with knives starting at age 4 had nothing to do with him lacking a father. Ted Bundy was born defective.

Jesus the Oxygen Network works fast..... they already have a series on this coming out. It has been like 48 hours since this happened.

"OXYGEN MOVIE SPECIAL: MEN WHO MURDER WOMEN AND CHILDREN

Disgusting, inferior and generally violent and offensive to women and children - MEN. On this Oxygen special we examine the case of yet another man acting poorly, resulting in MURDER!

David Donald Dakota was your average looking man and computer businessman known to him male friends as a lover of his family, woke social causes and his beloved Texas Rocket Ship professional sports team. While not as important or as entertaining as female basketball, his love of male professional basketball was well known by family, males and those that enabled him.

What was less well known, is that DD, as his male friends called him, was hiding a sordid past like every other heterosexual male on the planet. DD was a murderer and kidnapper!

Watch this 12 part mini series staring Jason Mamoa as DD and Susan Sarandon as the hardnosed lesbian detective that brought him down. Narrated by Janeane Garafolo and Gloria Allred, this is much watch television ladies! It also features a new collaboration between Billie Ellish and Liz Phair sure to stir even more hatred for your fat and stupid husband, who you wish you had never been conned into marrying.

Only on Oxygen! Brought to you by Magnum ice cream bars and Magic Mike III."

There is a gene, where, when people with the gene are subjected to intense stress and abuse as a child, they become psychopaths. It requires both - if you first have the gene, then are subjected to abuse as a child, you will skew hard towards being a psychopath.

The guy who discovered the connection, a neuroscientist named James Fallon, actually determined that HE had the problematic gene, but was a mild mannered guy because he had a nice upbringing.

It is a gene responsible for monoamine oxididase, which is responsible for breaking down neurotransmitters in the brain, so basically under extreme stress conditions their brains are flooded with excessive neurotransmitters, making them act impulsively.
