It's almost 4 years younger with KPJ, Brunson turns 26 at the end of this month, KPJ just turned 22 a couple of months ago.
I agree with you, but the whole thing with Brunson last season was his numbers actually got much better when Luka didn’t play. 20/4/7.5 and only 2.1 TOs 49/35/81 shooting
Not anymore. BPA if they are tiers apart. We already have a championship core in the making. Last I heard there are about 5 tier 1 candidates next year. Other than Victor, because of his size, if we are in a position to take someone in the top tier we should take fit.
It's madness in here lol. "KPJ is light years ahead of Brunson." "Better pay KPJ 19M now or else he's getting 25M next summer." "Scoot Henderson is a random prospect that projects to stay turrible forever." lmao
Brunson is a nice player, a bit short for my taste, but is a good player. He deserves the contract he got. DD
Come on man, look at any of the metrics and brunson blowns away kpj. Also, i think the brunson deal was idiotic but he was unrestricted, which kpj won’t be
And when Wood wasn’t playing. KPJ last 10: L10 10 35.3 46.7 39.4 87.5 5.9 7.5 0.5 1.1 2.4 2.7 23.5 23.5 7.5 assists 5.9 rebs 1.1 steals 2.7 to AND guess what he plays defense. Brunson was a massive overpay and why the Rockets would like to sign KPJ to a more reasonable 15m or so. Some dumbass org will pay 25m next year if KPJ performs anywhere near how he played the last part of the year.
To steelman his argument, he's specifically talking about metrics like win shares and he ignores basically everything else.
I am not saying Brunson is solely dependent on Luka he is a good young player, my point is he has been in a much better situation playing with better players and better coaching. And even then his numbers are not that much better and then he has played over 100 more games and is 3 years older. Oh yeah, he played 3 years in college as well with a great coach.
Same exact scenario we had here with Harden. You have a GOAT in Luka that is getting his teammates paid. The rosters are/were built around that one dude and when he is out you will have guys like Chandler Parsons or Jalen Brunson that will get people excited since SOMEONE has to score and make plays when that player is out and it was still not enough since they lost those "meaningful" games anyway. (It brings me so much joy to hear about "meaningful" games by the way when this very place spent all year having fun with their TANK memes). All you Brunson fans are in for a reality check next year.
We're not doing this motte and bailey game. Your statement was "look at any of the metrics and brunson blowns away kpj" Most of their numbers are relatively close with the exception of things like win shares. If you put things in context of KPJ having to deal with Wood's BS while having the burden of running the offense while Brunson was able to sit back and let Luka do all of the heavy lifting, those numbers make a bit more sense. You have to find a balance between metrics and actually watching the games because, like this instance, sometimes the metrics can fool you without context. If KPJ had a competent ball handler on the team that let him sit back and hit open 3's and be more selective about when he wants to run the offense, his numbers would be a LOT better. Hopefully if Jalen Green develops that part of his game, we'll get that eventually. Also Sengun no longer being nailed to the bench by Silas should help that as well.
