Just add... i would probably not feel that we must make another move if we knew Brantley would be healthy come October. It doesn't sound good based on what we are seeing.
So... it appears the Astros have 44 players on the 40 man roster. 3 are on the 60 day, so they still have a roster spot to clear. Brantley last played on 06/26 (seems a lot longer than that), so if they don't make any more moves AND Brantley is at least 3 weeks away (seems like he is), then he can go on the 60 day.
2 seconds of Google searching didn't bring up a picture, so I think it's probably safer to stand pat at the deadline here.
Agree, Astros should go all in on Bryan Reynolds.would be a great pick up team controlled till 2025. If not go for Ian Happ. After that, start McCormick in Center and send Myers back down for reps. Give McCormick a shot at playing everyday and see what he can do.
No kidding. Remember Cole and his personal catch Machette? If JV wants Maldanado behind the dish I am pretty sure Maldanado will be behind the dish that day.
The only thing I don't like about Reynolds is he strikes out a lot. Like 84 times in 315 AB this yr (27%).
I know who the Astros want (assuming it hasn't changed since yesterday) but who they actually get is hard to know. My "guess" is that end up with Taylor from KC. There is an outside chance they end up with Mullins from Baltimore or Happ from Chicago. I am not so sure that Baltimore wants to trade Mullins and I also think the Astros believe in a year or two they can do better than Mullins because almost all their outfield prospects are centerfielders. The Cubs regime has changed, but their current GM has usually not really valued the same type of prospects that the Astros have. So it makes for a tough match and while Happ can play centerfield well enough, he isn't someone with a great track record. So the Astros likely aren't willing to over pay. Taylor is a very good fielder, who can get on base when he is playing well. His cost shouldn't be very high. However the Astros may decide that they believe Meyers is already better. I think they will try to get a reliever, probably under team control beyond this season. There is also an outside chance that they end up with Bell if the Padres deal falls apart, but there are 3-4 teams with a strong interest in Bell.
Getting Reynolds on an overpay feels like a no-brainer decision. What are we waiting for? Shore up that spot till 25’. Re-sign Vasquez and Mancini. You have the starters minus Verlander potentially but we made it to the WS last year without him.
