I think I would’ve preferred that. Too bad the Pirates were still willing to help someone in division.
WOW... HATE the Will Smith trade. Dude had a 9 ERA and a 2.571 WHIP in July. He gave up runs in half his appearances so it wasn't just one bad game either. Plus we still got stuck with a buyout for next year. Really need a prospect or cash added to make this palatable.
He was bound to go back into a bullpen role of some sort. Especially down the stretch when you’re presumably getting a healthy LMJ back and also trying to keep JV and Framber on their normal routine. He whined about it last year… and was bound to cry about it again.
can we know who in particular he had problems with? It seemed like he was close to Lance and JV, I thought he was a bit of a prima donna but didn’t suspect he was cancerous.
Apparently Will Smith has allowed a 2.000 OPS against his curveball specifically. That pitch either needs to be scrapped completely, or some adjustments need to be made. I wouldn’t put it past the Astros pitching coaches to help solve this issue relatively quickly and for Smith to provide some big outs down the stretch.
To me CF is the only potential spot left to upgrade outside of a pitcher becoming available who hasn’t been mentioned. Happ, Reynolds, Mullins, or Laureano would be the options and they’d all look pretty badass hitting 7th or 8th in the lineup. With 19 hours to go, they added a starting C (Vazquez), a starting LF/1B (Mancini), a high ceiling lefty RP (Smith), and a 3rd tier AAA SP prospect (Murray). All in exchange for a high ceiling 4th OF (Siri), an unpopular rental SP4 (Odorizzi), and 3 3rd tier prospects (Valdez, McDermott, Abreu). We’ll see if Click makes a major move for a CF tomorrow or if this is it. If this is it, it’s not a horrible deadline, but they’d be relying on McCormick/Meyers more than I’d like.
From what I read from Braves fans are that if he has a slider going, he's very good. If not, BP ball. Probably the Astros will have work on his slider and ditch his curve ball.
The Stros have earned a little bit of faith. I'm not sure about this deal either, but that's where I'm at.
They told him they would try to move him and ultimately they just wanted him gone. They almost pulled it off with the Cards but Quintana is just a better asset. His buyout is only a million dollars. I hoped for more, but at this point they just want him out of the locker room and away from the organization. They will say all the right things but he was a terrible fit with this group of guys.
if you knew the response to the thing was coming, why did you say the thing? he might underwhelm but it's not because he's "cheap." that doesn't make any sense at all.
