Will Smith is a good proven lefty. His issue is how walk rate doubling over 2 seasons. Could be mechanical. He's been a closer some too. Reminds me of them picking up guys last year with closing experience...
Waiting to see details before judging. If Atlanta is picking up salary and/or tossing in a prospect it could be a good deal. If it’s just a straight swap it’s hard to see how that’s a win for Houston. Especially since it makes it a lot harder to envision them trading another SP in a bigger deal. Atlanta is an odd partner because on the surface they don’t look like they need another back end starter. All the hate for Odorizzi was unwarranted. He was pretty much exactly what Houston paid him to be and represented a decent value overall.
For a second I was fooled and thought it was the doyer's will smith. I would rather have Jada Smith's Will Smith.
Jake was actually pretty good here as a 4th starter. Wouldnt be something if he pitched against us in the World Series?
I do love the rewriting of history concerning Odorizzi. Now he's all of a sudden God's gift to starting pitching.
In the 2021 Playoffs, Will Smith pitched 11 scoreless innings against the Brewers, Dodgers and Astros. 4 scoreless against the Astros in the WS. At least the experience is there
Market may have dried up after Quintana went to stl. I suspect they worked with him on a list of preferred destinations and atl was last one. If so, classy moves like that get around the league. Will Smith does directly address a need for a lefty beyond a specialist. Moving our extra starter to fill a need is a plus. I think people were hoping for more, but they are a better team after doing it.
Odd if there’s not a prospect attached. While Odo sucked last year he’s been promising this season when healthy. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him have a strong second half.
