    His ERA is a 5. It wasn't a overpay.

You see player for player. It's player and years of control. Siri for 6 years for Mancini for 3 months.

Everything else is a new contract, even if it's just agreeing on the mutual option.

It was a solid deal that didnt hurt us at all

Murray is a good SP prospect.
Should see Big League time this year or even next year. Has good stuff surprised he is rated so low

If Mancini performs, loves Houston (great medical town too)… I’m sure ASTROS would love to extend him 10-15 million a year. I wouldn’t be too focused on the mutual option in 23’. Smart deal.

There is a mutual option for 2023. Mancini can choose to opt out and become a free agent. The Astros can choose to let him go and he becomes a free agent. There is no guarantee he will be an Astro in 2023.

    It is NOT that hard.

It's a mutual option. If Mancini doesn't opt in (even if HOU wants to pick it up) then it makes him a FA.

If this occurs then YES it turns out to be a rental.

If he opts out it’s he crushed it in the post season.

Yup, i'll once again bang the drum that the mutual option is one of the most pointless contract options.

Glad they picked up another solid bat.

I love the Mancini deal, because it gives you depth and flexibility at multiple positions. Bell is probably out of the equation now with Mancini and Yuli sharing duties at first, but I'd love to see them go out and add a center fielder with a little more consistency than what you're getting out of Meyers and McCormick.

Now do another 3 team trade with someone that missed out on Montas like the Cardinals.

    Cardinals get Jake Odorizzi

    Astros get Josh Bell

Nats get prospects from the Cardinals

I don't think I understand the point of a mutual option. What are the odds that both a player and a team think a player is worth the same amount? If $10MM seems like a good deal for the team, the player probably wants to test free agency, and vice-versa. I can't imagine many scenarios were a mutual option is exercised.

I never understood why a player opting out shouldn't be required to buy his way out like the team does.

They need their prospects for their Soto trade.

Agreed... although arbitration years are essentially the closest things to "mutual" options when both sides decide to agree or disagree on a set value.

Montas is a habitual doper who was awful before he started.

Cheaters are always ahead of the testers until they aren't... wouldn't touch him...
