Yet we can agree that he adds almost no value to you as a first baseman if Yuli is going to be the 280-300 guy he has been the last two months.

I would love for the Astros to get Bell, show him the culture of a winning environment and sign him to a nice 3-4 year deal which he projects to get at his age.

My feeling is if the Astros do indeed overpay for him which it sounds like its about to happen, then they feel they will resign him.

That didn't answer my question. Where did you hear or read that "awesome" rumor?

Yuli hit .241 in June. He did hit .289 in July but I think it’d be foolish to expect him to keep that up. But either way Vazquez probably serves as a somewhat better insurance policy than Matijevic.

I tend to agree, but in fairness, what did these numbers look like prior to the nice stretch he ran off before getting injured?

Odorizzi also doesn’t help himself with his weird excuses and “I just work here” comments.

Christian Vasquez to back up Maldy and versatility to get ABs at other positions is actually a better fit for a rental C. McCormick deserves OF ABs before any non-star OFer from outside, particularly against lefties. Don't be scare to use Alvarez in LF.

I don't think we should count on Brantley getting healthy. But if he does, treat it as an unexpected gift. I'm already counting Castro as out for the year.

But just look at the 13 Position players.

    2. C Maldonado intandibles
    3. 1B Gurriel getting hot or at least lucky in July.
    4. 2B Altuve is streaky, but a gamer when it matters.
    5. 3B Bregman is still between MVP and pull your hair out. But the signs are there and he can be a difference maker in the playoffs.
    6. SS Pena has cooled off after a Hot start, but is still solid.
    7. LF Alvarez gets this by default with Brantley out. MVP candidate. But this is likely to be a rotation position.
    8. CF McCormick until Meyers fully recovers. Something is still wrong. It is another position in a rotation.
9, RF Tucker He needs to stay here as a PLUS PLUS RF. He's in a slump, but I am confident he is hitting back to his high standards well before the playoffs.
    10. DH The ultimate rotation position with Diaz hottest at the moment.

    Bench
    C Lee or Vasquez?
    UT Meyer
    UT Dubon
    UT Matijevic lefty

It's NOT BAD going into the playoff with this group.

I would prefer to sign JV to an extension more than make some of the proposed lopsided deals. It might even be a good time to approach an extension with Tucker after he's experienced the fickleness of baseball recently. The bird in hand might look more appealing.

I am softening on Ji-Man Choi but I would not want to give up much for him.

I'd want Contreras bat and Murphy's defense...

I guess depends on cost because neither option is without downside...

I am ok with the the Ji man platoon. It honestly makes sense.

Obviously we would rather have Bell who makes our offense that much deeper.

Ok let's just pretend the team does not make any moves.

The division and playoff spots are well in hand.

    I would.

    1) send Meyers back to AAA or to IL. Clearly he is not recovered from the shoulder injury.

    2) Bring up Leon to see if his new plate discipline is real and what he can do to potentially fix CF for the playoffs.

Make sure he gets as close to 130 AB w/o hitting it so he keeps rookie eligibility. Hit him 8th or 9th, the more BB he gets the more he can play.

57 games left after the trade deadline. He can average 3 AB in 43 games and keep rookie eligibility for next year and will have a leg up on the 2023 season.

    3) Send Matijevic back to AAA. He has shown flashes and could be a player but isn't ready. Everyday play at AAA is best way to get him ready to compete for 1B spot next year.

    4) Bring up Yanier Diaz to split 1B w/ Yuli, provide a LH bat off the bench, and be emergency catcher. Have him work with Maldy and MLB staff at catcher even if he gets little to no game time there.

Same limits as Leon but hit him 7th/8th when he is in the game as he should not play as often and wasting the rookie threshold is not an issue.

These 2 moves should, at very least, be lateral to production the team has now and giving these 2 some experience and seeing what they can bring can only help in the future.

Urquidy/Siri for Lowe/Choi sounds like a done deal

Just wondering if renting J. D. and Valdez for Odo would work? We both fill needs from areas of surplus. They have 4 SPers down and ODO would be their number thee. He helps them make a run at the last WC.

    I really hate this move.

I actually think I could like Choi. He looks to be a fun loving kind of guy but. . .

Urquidy is a huge overpay and pitching depth is more valuable than a slightly above average platoon 1B bat.

Lowe looks to be too similar to many other OF bats already in the minors.

    I doubt it.

If Boston trades them away they are giving up on any chance of a playoff spot.

If they have no chance at a playoff spot then a rental starter makes no sense.

Only bringing in potential future contributors makes sense.

Sugar Land's active roster is at 30 with a limit of 28 including 18 pitchers as of last night, somebody has to go by tonight.
