Not crazy about Murphy... he's 27 and just an ok hitter. He has a gold glove but his arm doesn't appear to be exceptionally great. His whole career he's slightly above average cs%...

OPS is nice, but he's not a contact hitter.

If you're going to roll the dice switching catchers on our young pitchers i prefer a more complete player like Realmuto for example...

If we're valuing the offense of the 9th hitter over the results of virtually the entire pitching staff it's a gamble... i don't doubt Murphy is a decent guy with his pitchers but 4 of our 6th starters have barely used anyone else at catcher. There's a lag time getting to know and understand the staff...

That's why it's rare to see catchers move mid-season on championship teams...

Fools gold. He’s getting slap hits through the right side and the occasional double. He’s not driving the ball. His quality of contact sucks. His playoff numbers have never been all that good. It would be a terrible decision not to upgrade here.

He needs to start looking at the ball with two eyes again.

    https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...der-How-Carlos-Beltran-helped-to-14068517.php

"Carlos helped me a lot," Gurriel said Tuesday night through an interpreter. "He told me to look at the ball with two eyes and not with one eye. Just making that adjustment has helped me out."

The day after he said that, he went on a tear of like 10 HRs in 15 days and was the best player in baseball for two months.

I wouldn't mind him. Seems better than Meyers. Now if he's the main deadline acquisition, I would be upset.

Or he needs to get back on his pizza and beer diet lol. Crazy how he came into camp in better shape and became worse

Odorizzi seemed to work well with Lee.

ok so I guess I don’t really get how Bell fits into the mix - effectively we are benching Yuli for Bell or the Astros manage some platoon between the two (which I hate as it gets guys out of rhythm) and/or they can split the DH - except we may want to DH Yordan more with his hand issues and since he isn’t an ace defender. And if Brantley comes back (are we certain he won’t ?) then he’ll need to DH some too. I understand we get a bat upgrade but it feels better served in the outfield /catcher position . And for those who say Bell can play the outfield - that would be a major downgrade on defense . I guess I’m hopeful Yuli can turn it around. How many ABs does Bell get at first and what happens to Yuli ? Late defensive replacement ? DH? PH?

He would be the best option in my opinion

I hope they go get a Young OFer
Happ is my choice but I'm ok with Burleson. I have a feeling this guy will be a stud out there in LF and should be a target by the Astros in a cards trade of Odorizzi

They are Plugging Bell in at 1B. Yuli will be super Utility 3B 1B DH Maybe 2B and SS IDK PH stuff like that. Then You sign Bell long term and if Yuli wants to come back itll be Utility role. This is what it is.

You can put me in the crowd that would prefer a trade for a CF, but the winds don’t seem to be blowing in that direction. Bell would likely just be a rental

Such a weirdly constructed, overly dramatic rumor. Basically "the Astros are prepared to meet Nat's asking price for Josh Bell". Didn't really need to max out the character limit on that....

The Problem with that thought Is the CF market is then and very high in demand. SO we would be spending way more then needed to get a margin of Effectiveness. We don't have the biggest farm system. There are alot of teams looking for that upgrade.

As i Say that we do have good options that we can trade to acquire such a player but again its a high asking price

The problem isn’t that the CF market is too thin or too expensive, the problem is it’s basically non existent.

Do we play Josh Bell more in right field if we get him? Tucker in center. Yuli at first?

Or Myers center, Bell first, Yuli on bench?

I’ve been an entrepreneur for almost my entire working life (20 out of 25 years).
This board is making a mistake that I have made very frequently, trying to find a role for a guy that isn’t getting it done. I have done that with people I like time and again and it usually doesn’t work out. The simple answer is almost
always the best one and the right one and that’s rip the bandaid off and replace the poor production with a higher producer instead of building up safety rails to try to squeeze more production out of the low producer. That is Yuli imo. The answer is **** it- he gets very few AB’s if Bell comes over and you just don’t worry about it bc he’s not getting it done and his quality of contact shows he’s very unlikely to ever get it done.
