The Brantley situation means Yuli being "serviceable" isn't good enough anymore. They don't necessarily have to replace Yuli, but something has to be addressed.
Yuli is starting to come around seeing better pitching in front of Yordan. I'm thinking 1B isn't priority anymore. I'm fine with Yuli in the Brantley spot while it's looking like Brantley isn't coming back. I would prioritize CF and think Reynolds is best option followed by Mullins... If we can deal a package of non major league guys for Reynolds (say Brown, Leon, and E. Valdez) then we can play Yordan in left and leave DH open. That would mean we could go after best value for a hitter regardless of position. Then if Brantley does come back we have depth. So if the price for Bell is too high we can do Contreras. If that price is too high we can look at someone else. Backup catcher needs to be addressed but I'm fine with flipping some younger low level guys for just a solid backup. I wouldn't be shocked if Danny Jansen is available if they think Moreno is ready in Toronto.
If he's going to hit .280 in front of Yordan and not strike out I'm fine with him. Brantley was basically doing that.
Astros get: OF Ian Happ Cardinals get: RHP Jake Odorizzi Cubs get: 20-something prospect from STL RHP Forrest Whitley (4th, per MLB.com) RHP Peter Solomon (6th) IF Joe Perez (8th) A little strange and unconventional, this is a 3 way deal involving two longtime, bitter rivals (plus a 3rd team that used to be in the same division), but it should make sense for all 3. Cards get rotation help, Houston gets a bat, Chicago gets prospects. Keeps the powder (Urquidy/Garcia) dry for a blockbuster for a second bat.
Seems a little heavy from the Astros side of things in that essentially it’s 4 prospects (converting Odo to a prospect) for 1.5 years of Happ. I think I’d want another top 30 or lotto ticket coming from the cardinals back to us there. I think they are getting off light and we are too heavy there. But I like that a lot as a secondary move.
Pretty amused that every scenario has Odo being traded.... 90% of those scenarios have him going to STL..... a goodly number of those proposals have Burleson involved.
On ESPN: *don’t get your hopes up fellas* Contreras and Happ seen hugging teammates right before the game…
Id be fine with this Odorizzi and Maton to the Card for Alec Burleson we pay the rest of Odis salary this year only Urquidy to the Cubs for Ian Happ David Robertson and Pete Crow Armstrong Whitley McCormick and Cerny for Josh Bell and Isreal Pineda
Thats old it happened like 2 days ago. The Astros aren't getting a Catcher unless something has changed the prices are to high
That guy that built it to be the best isn't at MMP anymore. The new guy has to earn trust. I think he will make moves. At least that's what he did last yr.
this deadline is taking forever to develop. I feel like there are normally more deals done by this time 47 hours out. This Soto thing is messing everything up I think.
