Fine, but there’s a reason he consistently bats out of the 9-hole, and the Astros are continuously linked to catchers abroad as the trade deadline approaches. That’s what the ASTROS think of Maldy’s bat. No one is questioning his defensive ability
The catcher rumors are all backups because the organization doesn't want to run the potential risk of a true rookie being your everyday catcher in October. Even Contreras would likely DH a ton if we were to grab him.
Yes, to replace Castro/Lee as the backup. Nobody is replacing Maldy as the starter this year. A better backup though could give Maldy some more rest days before the playoffs.
Contreras is the best fit, because he can play 1b, c, dh to keep his bat in the line-up. I wouldn’t give up the farm for him, because he is a rental. Urguidy would be an overpay straight up.
Let us give the glory to Christ today and crush the Mariners. Hopefully no blister mid start again for the O-ster.
Maldy and Diaz are the regulars getting rest today. It's usually two per game. Diaz is the regular Utility Guy that gets as much playing time as players at a regular position. But Diaz has been outplaying most of our regular position players for the last month.
I used to work with this chubby kid at my first job in high school. They used to call him Squirtle lol idk why I never forgot that
Today's starter gives me flashbacks to the Kirwood Derby Bullwinkle short using Durward Kirby for wordplay. He was often associated with Carol Burnett and Gary Moore.
Sure - but we won the World Series when we still had Giles. My only point is that you don't need some kind of overpowering, intimidating closer to win World Series - and most of the recent winners haven't had them.
This doesn’t make sense to me. We have an 11 game lead. We don’t rest Maldy bc we don’t want to, not because we can’t. It’s actually sort of absurd with Lee up. He should be getting more AB’s and opportunities behind the plate. It’s a free roll at development. It sort of makes me believe they aren’t super high on him.
Of his 6 starts, one was the Yankees doubleheader. 1 was KC and 4 have been Oakland. I wonder if they are intentionally using him against the crappy teams since the pitchers have more breathing room? That said, they've lost 3 of his 4 Oakland starts. In the most recent series, he started 2 of the 3 games, so it's not like it was just "every 5th day" coincidence or whatnot.
