I really liked that the kid took it to the rack during the SL and still attempted handling it even though it resulted in a TO at times. I don't want a Ben Simmons situation where he's just too afraid to handle the ball so he never improves. He looked like he was taking that seriously.

Well… John Hollinger was not impressed at all with Jabari Smith in Summer League… already lowering his ceiling.

The thing I noticed about Smith is that I think he will develop a certain consistency on basic straight line drives but he will have the touch and length to make it work.

The defense and rebounding were holy ****. Like I think he will he one of the best defenders in the league from day 1 type of holy ****.

    Former GM of the Grizzlies.

I mostly was surprised how brutal he was.

I really wanted Paolo but Im basically fine with Smith. it makes team building easier and Smith and Eason can cover A LOT of defensive deficiencies.

he was not a successful executive… basically being the guy in between grit and grind and the current iteration.

I don’t really have an opinion on him as an executive, largely because he couldn’t run the team as he wanted.

I am not saying I think Hollinger is Jerry West. I am mostly just surprised he has such strong negative opinions.

    Link?

Hollinger has had some good calls, like having Barnes #2 on his big board last year and being high on Sengun early. From what I recall he had Jabari #1 this year.

Weird that summer league would change his opinion on Jabari, he didn’t show anything we didn’t know already prior to the draft. His creation and ball handling was as bad as we knew, and his defense was as good as it needed to be to cover up for his offensive holes and still be a top prospect. Anyone who was surprised at either didn’t watch him at Auburn. The only surprise was not making outside shots, which if you are worried about that I’m not sure what to say. I’m mean you never know, maybe he pulls a Markelle Fultz, but that’s not something you can tell off 5 games in summer league. Considering hollinger had jabari #1 before the draft, he may have just been too high on him in the first place, that’s why the need to lower his ceiling.

It's from his podcast with Nate Duncan.

A lot of people seem upset, but to me it is just something that is interesting and surprising..... it doesn't really change my opinion of Smith.

Well, he's the father of one of the first foundations in basketball analytics (PER) and people quote that stuff like it's "bible". lol.

"Dude, but his PER per 36 minutes on a Tuesday playing against 3rd stringers after the All-Star break is off the charts!!!"

It tell me that he's such a charitable guy. So if he says something bad about someone, that someone must be really bad. :D

As I thought, he doesn’t matter. Like at all. These young guys have work to do but we all knew that. We have so many 1st and 2nd year guys. Nothing new
