I would do this deal but I think a couple of tweaks are needed for both teams best interest. 1) I do the deal with Leon but would first try to do it without him. With his improvement in K rate at AAA at his age, I see him being equivalent to a RH CF Tucker. 2) Taylor does not feel like a good fit for them. I think they would want a younger guy with less MLB time. Let's say Reynolds for Garcia Julks Barber Matijevic. Drop Leon (MLB #3, FG#5) and Taylor (NR) Added Barber (MLB#5, FG#2) and Matijevic (MLB#30, FG#19) I think it's very very close but slightly better for Pitt and with all the new and ascending LH OF prospects the Astros are better off giving up Barber than Leon. If Pitt balks, we should offer to replace Julks (MLB#26, FG NR) or Matijevic with Logan Cerny ( MLB#24, FG#11) or a similar player.
Yea Diaz and Dubon both hit bombs yesterday, usually that would get you on the bench the following day
Ok so Barber is already gone in the Pirates deal. He needs to be replaced. The A's prefer MLB ready controllable talent to younger prospects. They always want to rebuild rather than reload. Abreu feels perfect for them. I feel like they would not want an injury risk pitcher like Whitley as they has less margin for error by trading for MLB ready talent as opposed to high ceiling talent. It is also selling way low on Whitley. Murphy and Moll for: Korey Lee Abreu Enoli Paredes Lee becomes expendable once the team gets Murphy.
Long-term…Altuve is locked in at 2B, Peña at SS…could we see some potentially unorthodox or unconventional switches defensively elsewhere with the team? Maybe Bregman or Tucker to 1B? I know it’s not likely, but could be a creative way to fill that position if we feel like we can address 3B or OF easier. I’m guessing we leave them put but just thinking out loud. Clearly not a switch that would happen until next year…and not likely, but I could see Bregman playing a solid 1B if we wanted/needed him to.
I'll take the Angels. They keep spending like fans want on a few celebrity players. A team needs depth.
This feels right, although Marlins may not want James because he can't make the MLB roster and next year will be his 2nd arb year. Sub random mid level prospect RP should not hold up the deal. Let's say Ronel Blanco. They may ask for Joe Perez instead of Hensley as Perez is a local Miami guy and higher rated prospect. Again don't hold up the deal but may not need the RP, 3rd piece if Perez is in the deal. So Cooper for Siri Hensley Blanco
How about this? To Cardinals Luis Garcia Jake Odorrizi Chayce Mcdermott To Cleveland Jordan Walker Luken Baker Enmanuel Valdez To Astros Josh Naylor Alec Burleson Emmanuel Clase (closer, dominant on lefties) Rotation Verlander Valdez Javier Urquidy Brown I think it would take Cardinals out on Soto and going pitching...
I think another person brought up Clase. He signed an extension with them earlier this year so it’s very unlikely they would trade him. They are also in the race for the playoffs so I doubt they would be sellers.
I think Cards are good fit for Odorizzi and Donovan is reasonable as expendable for them. I don't think by himself, Jake is enough. The Astros will need to pitch in a couple $M or add a prospect. Cards want to win now so prefer MLB ready players and have a log jam of position players already so let's throw them a bullpen arm. Donovan for Odorizzi Brandon Bielak. But truth is with Garcia traded I would rather keep Jake as insurance for McCullers and to eat innings and keep the staff fresh heading into the playoffs.
Except they both were sub'd into the game later. I think it's just FINALLY don't change a lineup that scored 11 runs. If they were sitting due to a potential trade they would have stayed on the bench yesterday.
Read earlier that Story has a hairline fracture in his wrist. Sitting 10-14 days. They don't usually tear things down during the season but it's going to be interesting to see what they do.
I actually like Choi. I have not looked at his fielding numbers but he is having a good year with the bat. K's are higher than ideal but not outside the MLB norm for a guy with near .800 OPS (133 OPS+) And he always looks like he is having fun. The comments I just attribute to having his team's back and being competitive. I'm sure he would be accepted in the locker room. I don't think Lowe is a good fit. Before he graduated he was Rays' MLB#12 and FG#9 prospect. FG dropped him from 50 grade to 45 grade earlier this year due to huge K numbers in AAA and no improvement in MLB. My opinion is he is much like a LH Pedro Leon without the huge arm BEFORE he solved the K issue Or an older Jake Melton with a lesser hit tool. Not needed in the system, especially for Urquidy.
Wait like the sellers are waiting to see if Red Sox will be buyers or buyers waiting to see if they will sell? If they were to buy, would Bell be a potential fit? Is this holding up from the Nationals and Astros make a deal?
Loved reading your suggestions @IdStrosfan! Matijevic to PIT would be a good fit since he's from there. Not sure how much interest there would be, though. If we get a guy like Murphy, it would make Lee expendable, but I doubt OAK would really want him considering catching is the strength of their farm (hence, part of why teams think Murphy could be had).
