https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/07/cubs-trade-chris-martin-dodgers.html Dodgers get Chris Martin. Phillies get Edmundo Sosa.
The biggest concern in the farm system is the AAA and AA starting pitching. We have different levels of pitchers.... 1. Hunter Brown 2. Brandon Bielak 3. Jimmy Endersby 4. J.P. France 10 feet of $hit 5. Everyone else Guys like Tamarez, Bermudez, Tyler Brown, Melendez, Solomon, Conine, and Dubin have been disappointments.
To get the best chance to win a championship I would give up any of those guys, minus Yordan. Bottom line is prospects are great, rings are greater. Some on here overvalue prospects. IMHO
Considering the Astros farm system produced more WAR than any other in the last 12 years, it’s not an unreasonable sentiment.
And 1 championship, do you want Click to give his team its best chance at championship #2 or do you want to hold onto prospects? I'm not talking about emptying out the farm, just that with the current state of the farm nobody should be off limits.
George Springer, Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman They were all prospects. It depends on what you value really. The Yankees could give two craps about their prospects because they can't develop them. The Astros have a knack for developing good players and turning them in to great ones. They should absolutely value prospects. You can't compete long term without good prospects being successful with team control. The Cardinals and Giants laid the framework. The Astros did it just as good. This is the way. You don't do what the Mariners did last night. It was an emotional move that more than likely costs them.
That is really not a problem as the rotation is full to overflowing and under team control thru 2024. It is however a good reason to hold on to our current starters this season.
If Click goes for a reliever, that's fine but that shouldn't be the priority. Yankees set the market when they traded with KC. It wasn't some massive overpay. A bat has to be a priority. Banking on Brantley being healthy with little over 60 days before the playoffs is risky and honestly it's stupid. Right now this team lacks depth with hitting. It's nice to see Yuli doing well two games end and Bregman starting to put it together. The scandal really did a number on him. He needs to continue to go for hits and not homeruns. Houston has a great problem with their rotation. They don't need to trade them. If they are going to trade Urquidy, they better damn well get maximum value. He is proven in the playoffs and can at least 6 innings. We can't say same for Garcia or Javier. The rumor with Tampa is a terrible trade. Too many people are focusing about trading prospects. They are prospects until they are not. Championship flags fly forever and that needs to be the goal this year.
What were Luis Garcia, Christian Javier, Urquidy, Jeremy Pena? There are plenty of guys that came out of nowhere.
the backlash of trading a significant MLB roster piece for a prospect would be deafening and rightfully not go over well
If you're going to trade them, you better get players that will help this team win a championship. Prospects will not help you this year unless you're packaging those prospects for other another player for this year.
What Jaime Melendez is doing at age 20 in AA puts him in rare company. Imagine if he was in low A where he would still be young for the league. He would probably have a sub 1 ERA and 18 k's per 9 over 100 innings right now and likely in most mid season top 100 lists., because that's exactly what he did there as a 19 year old last year in limited duty. He would be right below Hunter Brown, and only ever so slightly, in my trade value chart if i was Astros GM. He has a Cristian Javier career arc written all over him. Give him two more years and two more ticks on his fastball and he will be a force.
