I also checked his IG: He is not following the Astros. He is, however, following both Altuve and Bracamonte. I don't know if he's always followed them, but they're both from Venezuela, like him. Not uncommon for players to follow other players/coaches from the same country. We'll see, but this is always a fun time of the year.
Biggest problem with that is that Maldy would still be the starting catcher. This is the Astros you are talking about. Brantley/McCormick on the bench and Alvarez I. LF Still a big improvement.
Urquidy and McCormick for Contreras, Happ, and a decent multiyear reliever would be a tough but reasonable deal. I would probably consider it an overpay but I think generally it would be fair.
Nook mentioned the name Scott Effross a few pages ago. Right handed reliever, has almost the full team control remaining. Good numbers with the peripherals (per Savant) to back him up. Not sure if there's any truth (though Nook has connections), but he totally has "under the radar Astros acquisition" written all over him.
We are in the thick of it when we start mentioning lineups and late scratches. 3 more sleeps till deadline.
Correction: Four (the deadline is Tuesday, not Monday). Is getting a Contreras/Happ/Effross trio from Chicago, plus a G. Cooper and T. Scott for Siri (plus?) swap (Miami) too much? Altuve 2B Contreras DH Alvarez LF Bregman 3B Tucker RF Cooper 1B Happ CF Pena SS Maldy C Death row. Last year's batting champ (and runner up, if healthy) off the BENCH. Wow.
I just heard that Contreras uses McCormick seasoning for his tacos. Coincidence? I think not. It's obvious they're getting traded for each other.
There’s room for 3 bats as long as one of them can one can play C. And assuming they’re ok with Dubon being the only OF on the bench. If Brantley isn’t out for the season then one of the acquisitions needs to be able to play CF.
I checked every box. Contreras can catch (and maaaybe LF in an emergency). Happ can play all 3 OF positions. And Cooper can also play corner OF. That lineup gives us six All Stars, plus two All Star snubs.
The fact Brantley isnt catching is a really bad sign. I dont believe he is going to be healthy enough by October.
Probably reading too much into it but all 4 young tradable position players on the big league roster (McCormick, Meyers, Matijevic, Lee) being held out of todays lineup doesn’t seem like a coincidence and I doubt they’d do that if they didn’t feel like they were close to some kind of deal.
Great deal for San Diego. Musgrove is from that area and very close to his family so I can see why he’d take a discount to stay there but he could easily be leaving $70M on the table.
He plays a premium position and is under team control for years. Couple that with him being a good defensive center fielder that can get you a dozen to two dozen homers a year, can steal you a base and hits for a high enough average. Even with a mediocre offensive year, he is still going to be a 4-5 WAR player. I also appreciate the fact that he has scuffled offensively but has made up for it by picking up his defense. I wouldn’t pay a huge amount for him like was rumored before the season started, but if he is hitting 8-9 in your order, you are stacked .
