Criticism of players would work better if people didn't need to rely on hyperbole. In 11 starts this year, Jake has given up 5 runs twice (and the Astros won one of those).

I'd rather be facing the Dodgers or the Devil Rays. Oakland just makes me sleepy.
Shareef Abdur Rahim was one of my favorite non Rox growing up and you always heard "He's plays on an awful team. Of course he's going to be good." He wasn't a ball hog or chucker. TLDR: It takes mental toughness to play in such a terrible team. Props to Murphee, Kemp and Elvis, who keeps being annoying to the Stros after all these years.

I think the Astros lost a game last night, making them 5-1 since the break.

lets all go get some fresh air

If our entire pitching staff was healthy, Jake would be what?

    Our #6? #7?

I just hope we don't need him on the playoff roster.

If the team stays healthy, it is unlikely he'd be on the playoff roster. Disappointing he didn't have a great start ahead of the deadline, because it is best that he get moved for a better roster fit.

Is Clutchfans Astros Nation still calling for a Pressly replacement? Asking for a friend.

He's #6 right now; #7 if McCullers comes back. When Lance is back, I would just tandem the two of them in the regular season; keep a 6 man rotation but the rest of the pitching staff gets a day off every 6th day, and it lets Lance work his arm strength back up. For the playoffs, if everyone is healthy:

    #1: Verlander
    #2: Framber
    #3: Javier
    #4: Garcia or Urquidy
    3-inning Closer: Lance
    3-inning secondary reliever: Urquidy/Garcia
    1-inning Closer: Pressly
    Setup Men: Stanek, Neris, etc
    Odorizzi doesn't make the roster

The Astros have basically the perfect pitching staff - depth everywhere and enough options to avoid a team having to face a single reliever 3 or 4 times in a series, which tends to go badly.

It is pitchers who wear the Astros uniform, Maton (ERA), Montero, Abreu and Stanek are having the best year ever.

Astros Twitter demanding to trade Yuli for a middle reliever is nuts...

There was plenty of money for Graveman.

They chose to not resign him

They did not like his performance vs left handed hitters.

    Preferred Neris

So we could have an extra unneeded reliever and have a bunch of top tier starters have to pitch a bunch more innings throughout the season, risking more injuries and tired arms in October? Jake's job is very simple: eat up innings to help the Astros get through the regular season healthy and fresh. As long as the Astros have a top 2 seed, losing random games with your #6 starter is irrelevant.

Besides that, Astros have plenty of money since they let Correa go - this wasn't an either/or decision.

Oh absolutely - him, Abreu, Maton, etc. It's a lot of pitching staff depth.

damn. I was really hoping Jake Meyers could keep up his strong play after his return and he could solidify his spot at CF. He was a real spark on that winning streak. Now that spot is in flux as is the 1st base and LF if Brantley stays out.

The real reason Odorizzi throws b**** fits when he gets pulled even at the price of the team losing due to his poor play. He’s as a selfish as it gets and has never fit the team first mentality. He’s a real stain on James Clicks track record as the Stros manager.
